    In this position...

     

    Position is for a mechanical joining technical expert for electrified drive units (power unit), hybrid transmissions, and traditional multispeed transmission in Underbody Systems product development engineering.

     

    As the company and industry transition from traditional step transmissions (hydraulic/clutch-based technology) to electrified propulsion (power unit/electrified technology), we need a subject matter expert to aid in the continue development of our Ford + technological expertise and strategies specific to mechanical joining.

     

    Mechanical joining encompasses the technologies associated with joint designs and processes such as welding, riveting, fastening, adhesives, heat & mechanical staking, shrink fitting, doweling, folding etc.

     

    What you'll do...

     

    + Responsible (Owner) for the creation and maintenance of the Core Engineering Documents (Failure Mode Avoidance, Systems Design Specifications and Requirements, Test Procedures, etc.)

    + Author requirements, rules, methods in a manner that institutionalizes key learnings.

    + Implement weld/heat & mechanical staking/riveting certification specification/strategy to support joint designs and enforce SCCAF/control plan requirements.

    + Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve joint designs and manufacturing processes.

    + Develop non-destructive in-process inspection testing/control methods for mechanical joints (Welding/riveting/heat staking) by working with inspection equipment suppliers and improve quality of the end products.

    + Define the meaning of “The Most efficient joining process” in terms quality & cost and chart a course of actions to achieve it by developing upfront design, verification plan & methods, and industrialization plan.

    + Lead technical design reviews, discussions, and deep dives to balanced conclusions for System, Subsystem, and Component engineering.

    + Conduct signoffs of System, Subsystem, Components in area of responsibility prior to Manager and Chief Engineer sign off.

    + Contribute to best practices for joint and joining efficiency, robustness, and reliability at component and system levels.

    + Collaborate with subsystem and component Technical Specialist from the electric motor, integrated system controller (ISC), Gears & Shafts, Bearings, Thermal, NVH, Manufacturing, etc.…

    + Develop and support design verification and process validation for demonstration of contamination robustness.

    + Understand upfront design, verification plan and methods, and industrialization process.

    + Know the competitive landscape and what it takes to outpace the competition.

    + Serve as Go-To resource for problem solving - Launch, Recall, Quality, Customer issues.

    + Coach, Mentor, and Train

    + Speak with confidence and authority, be humble and collaborative in leading a technical review or debate.

     

    You'll have...

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related quantitative field

    + Experience required for technical specialist consideration - 10 years total experience with 6 years in specialty.

    + Proven history of design and verification directly applicable to contamination and its effects on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic system function

    + Proven history of evaluating choices and directing a team based on technical ideals balanced with industrialization realities.

    + Key:

    + Ability to lead and align collections of people that do not directly report to this position (lead the collection of sub-system and component technical specialists that make up the TS team contributing to overall product delivery success)

    + Ability to institutionalize the key factors of joint designs successes and lessons learned by authoring design rules, System Design Specifications, technical design guides, DFMEAs, SCCAFs/Control plans etc. and to teach associated learning sessions.

    + Ability to form a strategic viewpoint, communicate it effectively at all levels, and drive the company in a winning direction.

    + Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

    + Outstanding interpersonal and teaching skills.

    + An evidence book is required for TS candidates pending successful interviews. The evidence book should be submitted to the hiring manager.

    + Master of Engineering (material science, mechanical systems, etc.) preferred.

    This position is a salary grade LL6.
