    Purpose of this position

     

    Under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Floor Care Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of all flooring surfaces at assigned facility. This includes routine and deep cleaning, floor care treatments, and minor repairs to ensure a pristine and professional environment.

    + Experience in healthcare, hospitality, or commercial environments a plus.

    Skills/Abilities

    + Functional literacy in spoken and written English.

    + Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.

     

    Delegation of authority

    Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:

    + Implement floor care procedures to meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.

    + Participate in the monitoring system for the housekeeping department.

    + Notify supervisor when supplies are needed.

    + Notify supervisor when equipment or areas of the facility are in need of repair.

    The primary functions and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Perform routine and specialized floor care tasks including sweeping, vacuuming, carpet shampooing, stripping, sealing, waxing and buffing to maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

    + Conduct daily cleaning procedures such as dust-mopping, wet-mopping, and spot-cleaning in resident rooms, hallways, dining areas, and clinical spaces.

    + Follow all safety protocols outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and facility infection control policies.

    + Use cleaning chemicals and supplies according to manufacturer instructions and facility guidelines, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); report any safety concerns immediately.

    + Operate floor care equipment safely and responsibly, ensuring proper precautions are taken around residents and staff.

    + Dispose of waste and cleaning materials in accordance with facility policy and regulatory standards, including biohazard protocols when applicable.

    + Assist in the maintenance and proper storage of housekeeping equipment to ensure readiness and longevity.

    + Promptly report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or maintenance department as appropriate.

    + Identify and report any flooring damage, trip hazards, or areas in poor repair to ensure resident safety.

    + Use housekeeping supplies efficiently to support cost-effective operations and minimize environmental impact.

    + Support special cleaning projects, emergency cleanups, and seasonal floor treatments as directed by the supervisor.

    + Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor when working in resident-occupied areas, ensuring privacy and minimizing disruption.

    + Work cooperatively with residents, residents’ representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants and ancillary service providers.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    GENERAL FUNCTIONS

    + Observe and abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations to ensure that personal health information is protected during its collection, use, disclosure, storage and destruction within Care Initiatives; and to ensure only the minimum necessary information is known to function in this position.

    + Assume accountability for compliance with Federal, State and other regulations within scope of responsibilities.

    + Observe safety hazards and emergency situations, and reports to appropriate supervisor or taking corrective action according to established procedures; works safely without danger to self or others.

    + Actively participate in Quality Assurance committee as required or requested.

    + Attend in-service training programs for housekeeping team members.

    + Maintain strict confidentiality of resident, employee and other facility business information.

    + Arrive to work as scheduled, consistently demonstrating dependability, punctuality and adherence to the organization’s attendance policy.

    + Accept assigned duties, instructions, or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to established procedures.

    + Perform all assigned duties in an effective, timely, and professional manner contributing to a positive and safe care environment.
