_Summary:_

A Systems Safety Engineer is needed to understand, guide, and document the demonstration of safety for Positive Train Control, Dispatch, and related systems in Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence portfolio for both internal and external customers. The applicant will be responsible for compiling a portion of, or all documentation, required for certification as defined by CFR 49 Part 236 Subpart I and Appendix C and/or CENELEC EN 50126, 50128, and 50129.

Required activities include hazard identification, generation of detailed fault trees, occasional development of FMEAs, and completion of risk assessments. All failure rate data derived from the completion of these activities needs to be established and justified. Adherence to formal processes will be required, although continuous process improvements are encouraged. The candidate will work in a team environment and will receive mentoring and guidance from senior engineers. This position will be hybrid, with three days in the office and two remote. Remote work is possible for the exceptionally well-qualified candidate.

_Experience & Qualifications:_

+ Analyze and document systems under development for hazardous conditions and provide meaningful solutions to the development team

+ Understand architecture requirements for high integrity computing solutions

+ Conduct Hazard Analysis

+ Develop system level failure analysis reports

+ Review Monte Carlo analysis results and assess their impact on safety margin

+ Build fault trees that reflect the identified hazards and mitigations

+ Perform component level FMEAs

+ Participate in multi-function code reviews by identifying any safety-relevant impacts

+ Advise development team toward product certification under CFR 49 Part 236 Subpart I and Appendix C and CENELEC EN 50126, 50128 and 50129

_Responsibilities:_

+ Four-year STEM degree from an accredited college/university

+ 3-7 years related or engineering experience

+ Attention to detail; approaches work in a meticulous and thorough manner

+ Makes effective decisions by analyzing information and considering priorities

+ Good oral and written communication skills

+ Self-motivated, results oriented, with a clear focus on quality and on time delivery

+ Effectively manages transitions between projects/tasks

+ Ability to support 5-10% travel

+ Experience in railroad operations is a plus

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$67,400.00-$96,000.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
