**Purpose Statement/Position Summary:** The Kuo Lab at CHLA is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our research program as an Associate Research Specialist. The ideal candidate should be able to follow protocols accurately, maintain meticulous records, and effectively present data and results to the research team. This role also offers the opportunity to learn and apply techniques and methods essential to molecular biology and cancer biology studies. The Associate Research Specialist will perform basic molecular biology work, including but not limited to DNA extraction/isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing prep, RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, protein extraction/quantification, enzyme assays, cell culture, and microscopy/imaging. The specialist will also receive training in the use of zebrafish models.

The Kuo lab focuses on the tumor immune microenvironment of Ewing sarcoma. We are particularly interested in the cross-talk and signaling networks between immune cells-especially tumor-associated macrophages-and cancer cells. To advance this work, we leverage a novel immunocompetent zebrafish genetic model of Ewing sarcoma (developed by Drs. Vasileva and Amatruda: PMID 35285802) and human Ewing sarcoma tumor samples to gain deeper insights into the tumor immune microenvironment.

**Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:** Experience working in a laboratory environment required; Preferred 1+ years experience performing laboratory research. Proficient in word, excel, and powerpoint.

Prior experience working with animals in a research setting is highly valued, as is a background in molecular and cancer biology. Principal investigator is willing to provide training for those who may lack specific experience.

**Education/Licensure/Certification:** A Bachelors’ degree, in a related scientific field (e.g., biology, microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering) Applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree by their anticipated start date.

Pay Scale Information

$43,680.00-$61,953.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
