    Job Requisition: REQ4001 Employment Type: Full-Time Shift: Days Hours Per Week: 40 hours

     

    Hiring range: $ 71,698.00 - $96,283.20 The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership for process improvement and redesign to improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs and/or meet departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

    • Maintains DNFB at acceptable levels to ensure all cases are final coded in accordance with facility specific goals.

    • Acts as the subject matter expert for coding and handles coding staff issues as they pertain to coding, charge entry, regulatory changes etc. Knowledgeable with coding as well as outpatient areas with APC/APG and Evaluation and Management E/M coding. Serves as liaison. Responsible for ensuring the timely education of the coding team regarding coding/abstracting changes in laws, regulations, and policies requirements to ensure compliance.

    • Develops, implements, and monitors coding policies/procedures, and quality monitors for the coding area.

    • Collaborates with the Providers and Office Managers to foster strong relationships with the coding team in the query process and clinical documentation improvement process. Provides coding expertise and guidance to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

    • Monitors and analyzes performance and productivity for coding/abstracting processes to assure quality standards and HIM department and St. Mary’s Healthcare Hospital goals are met. Conducts regular audits to ensure compliance and identifies areas for improvement.

    • Assists with 3rd party payor insurance. Effectively works with revenue cycle staff on coding denials management and will assist with appeals as needed. Ensures coding staff responds to tasks/denials in a timely manner.

    • Will assist in reporting to SPARC’s: Congenital Anomalies

    • Coordinates with outsourced companies as needed and assists in audits for Joint Commission.  Develops and monitors staffing patterns to ensure productivity and other measures are met. Responsible for providing leadership to personnel.

    • Interviews and selects qualified applicants for open, budgeted positions within the guidelines set forth in Human Resources policies and procedures.

    • Provides ongoing feedback to staff concerning their performance, implementing corrective action as needed and per human resource policy. Ensures performance evaluations are thorough, timely and include goal setting for each individual. Establishes systems for open communication and problem solving, encourages employee involvement in safety and health standards, hazard analysis, and performance improvement initiatives. Promotes growth and development in self and others. Develops and documents orientation and ongoing training programs for departmental personnel.

     

    Education: Associates degree in related field required. Minimum (3) years related management experience.

     

    Certifications / Licensure Minimum of 3 years of previous acute care hospital coding (ambulatory and inpatient) required. RHIA or RHIT, CCS or CIC required.
