Senior Biologist/Phytoplankton Expert

Our Fisheries & Aquatic Science Team is seeking an experienced biologist with strong skills in phytoplankton identification and enumeration for projects in the San Francisco Estuary. This position is based at either our West Sacramento or Richmond, California lab locations.
Salary Range: The starting pay for this role is $80,000 to $110,000, depending on your qualifications, experience, responsibilities, and work location. The range allows for advancement and professional growth within the position.
About the Role
As a Senior Biologist/Phytoplankton Expert, you will provide critical laboratory support for research and monitoring projects focused on the upper San Francisco Estuary and other freshwater and estuarine ecosystems in California. You will use light microscopy to identify and enumerate phytoplankton, contributing to our understanding of these vital aquatic systems.
Basic Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, environmental sciences or other related field of study with 10+ years of experience in conducting phytoplankton identification and enumeration
+ Master’s degree in aquatic biology with 5+ years of experience in conducting phytoplankton identification and enumeration
Additional Preferred Skills/Experience
+ Expertise in zooplankton and larval fish identification and enumeration
+ Expertise in phytoplankton identification
+ Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

**Pay Range** - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$73,403.00 - $150,989.00
