    JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

    TACTICAL REVIEW SPECIALIST

    Chicago Police Department

     

    Office of Constitution Policing and Reform

    Number of Positions: 20 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

    •​Under supervision, the class is assigned to the Tactical Review and Evaluation Division of the Chicago Police Department and reviews use of force incidents to determine whether the use of force conforms to department protocols in order to identify opportunities for improvement; and performs related duties as required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    + Reviews documented incidents of use of force, firearm pointing, foot pursuits, investigatory stops, and search warrants.

    + Analyzes tactics, training, policies, and procedures and compares the facts of each incident with protocols which have been established by Department policy and training standards.

    + Utilizes various software to view, flag, and retain video and audio recorded with Department-issued recording devices.

    + Accesses CLEARNET system to obtain basic officer information and print out TRRs, arrest reports, and related case reports.

    + Identifies any patterns, trends, or emerging concerns relative to the use of force incidents.

    + Evaluates whether or not each reviewed incident was tactically sound and consistent with Department General Orders.

    + Drafts advisements or debriefing recommendation(s) for enhancements to existing department trainings or modifications to policies, tactics, equipment or Department practices and submits to commanding officer for final review.

    + Attending annual in-service training.

    **LOCATION:** Chicago Police Department

     

    5101 S. Wentworth Ave

     

    **SHIFT/HOURS:** Monday-Friday 06:00AM-02:30PM

    THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE

    Qualifications:

    Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, plus five (5) years of work experience in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

     

    Disclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

    Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

    + ​Previous experience working in law enforcement.

    + Knowledge of the Department’s policies, reports and systems of reporting.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

    **NOTE** : You must provide your transcripts or diploma, professional license, or training certificates at time of processing, if applicable.

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

    This position requires applicants to complete an interview and a writing assessment. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the interview and writing assessment will be selected.

     

    **NOTE:** Candidates must pass a background investigation, drug screen and other pre-employment procedures as determined by the Chicago Police Department.

    **Residency Requirement:** All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
