Job Summary:

Under the guidance and supervision of a laboratory technologist or technician, the Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of support duties related to the processing and handling of patient specimens. This role also assists in the Microbiology department with specimen setup, quality control (QC), and routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Assist in the technical processing and preparation of patient specimens.

+ Perform set-ups of patient samples and quality control procedures in the Microbiology department.

+ Record and monitor temperatures of laboratory equipment, including refrigerators and incubators.

+ Support phlebotomists by assisting with patient draws on the floor as needed.

+ Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper labeling within the laboratory workspace.

+ Follow all laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures.

+ Perform other related duties as assigned by supervising technologists or technicians.

Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent required.

+ Completion of or enrollment in a laboratory or health science technical program preferred.

+ Basic knowledge of laboratory safety, equipment, and procedures.

+ Attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

+ Strong organizational and communication skills.
