Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform specialized work in assisting with services for schools. Provides for the care and well-being of students. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the ESE Director. Performance is evaluated through observation of work, and/or periodic conferences, critiques records and reports.
Essential Functions of this Job
Administers individual hearing screening assessments to students in assigned schools (State Mandated Grades) for the purpose of identifying students with hearing problems and/or ensuring compliance with established and/or prescribed standards per FL Statue and current Legislative laws.
Assists site personnel in organizing the hearing screening program for the purpose of identifying students with hearing problems. Assists Health Department Nurses when organizing and scheduling a Health Day in specific Middle Schools Countywide.
Compiles comprehensive records for the purpose of complying with administrative requirements.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reliable information, and complying with District, State and Federal
Requirements.
Maintains audiometric screening equipment (e.g., cleaning, calibration, listening checks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in proper working order.
Monitors students in screening areas for the purpose of maintaining safety and following district policies.
Processes documents and materials (e.g., screening, audiological paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
Reports unusual and/or difficult hearing screening deficits or problems to the school contracted Audiologist.
Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured student, fights, fire drill, lock down and safety procedures) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or referring to appropriate administrator for resolution. Knowledge of the HIPPA law for health confidentiality.
Schedules testing appointments for the purpose of insuring the availability of facilities and location.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand written and oral instructions, to speak and write coherently, to keep records and make simple reports and to work cooperatively and act professionally with other school personnel and parents. Special abilities may be required for specialized paraprofessional positions such as, bilingual/biliterate. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Professional duties will involve attending meetings as necessary and attending in-service meetings as indicated by the Supervisor.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
Graduation from and accredited high school or completion of GED
The need for personal transportation from one site to another is a requirement.
A valid driver#s license and evidence of insurability.
Work Context:
Requires sitting and some standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or team members. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires working with students, parents, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment:
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for much of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
