**BASIC PURPOSE:** The Project Engineer – Electrical leads the engineering, planning, and management of alternative energy infrastructure projects for Love’s Travel Stops and third-party clients. Projects include Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Hydrogen fueling facilities, Photovoltaic (PV) solar installations, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), and Distributed Energy systems. The Project Engineer oversees all phases of project execution, including estimating, technical design, equipment procurement, construction support, and commissioning. This role collaborates with grants and sales teams, design firms, equipment vendors, and utility providers, ensuring ongoing communication of project status to all stakeholders. The Project Engineer also serves as a technical resource, evaluating and advising on new products and emerging technologies under consideration by Love’s, helping guide strategic decisions and innovation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Evaluate new opportunities and develop preliminary designs for alternative energy infrastructure projects.
+ Prepare and review technical drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and other design software.
+ Lead the engineering review of permit, construction, and as-built drawings.
+ Serve as a technical resource for business development, grant applications, and sales engineering.
+ Continually assess and recommend new products, technologies, and industry best practices for adoption.
+ Advise on compliance with the latest electrical codes and standards, including the National Electric Code.
+ Build and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and utility providers.
+ Review equipment submittals and RFIs, providing timely and accurate feedback to project managers and stakeholders.
+ Assist project managers with AHJ and utility applications for permitting and project needs.
+ Provide engineering and design support during project meetings, customer interactions, and site visits.
+ Participate in construction phase site visits to resolve technical issues and prevent schedule/cost overruns.
+ Foster constructive relationships with clients, internal teams, and external partners.
+ Communicate project status and technical information clearly to all stakeholders.
+ Develop and implement administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
+ Ensure compliance with electrical safety practices and participate in ongoing safety training.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Required Experience:
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering and design.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience designing electrical power systems and applying the National Electric Code.
Preferred Experience:
+ Knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting software
+ Knowledge of ETAP or SKM

+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project; able to type at least 40 words per minute and compose professional emails, letters, and contracts.
Required Physical Demands:
+ Travel required, approximately 10-25%.
+ Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
+ Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
+ Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
+ Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
