    The Position:

    JOB SUMMARY

    + Responsible for mechanical design, development & qualification of Avionics Electromechanical components, products & systems. Participate with members of management in the design and development of products and analysis of customer requirements by determining and implementing optimal solutions, while considering avionics requirements, regulations, product marketing and cost. Has specific technical project or product responsibility.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Design and develop mechanical enclosures, components and assemblies utilizing mass production manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, die casting and CNC machining.

    + Work closely with the EE/EMI/PCB Engineers and design the mechanical aspects of PCBs (outline dimensions, mounting points, connector locations, keep out zones, etc.), cables and harnesses.

    + Plan and apply engineering principles and hands-on techniques to solve complex engineering challenges and refine product designs.

    + Perform qualitative and quantitative thermal, structural, shock, and vibration analyses to assess the dynamic characteristics and thermal performance of materials, assemblies, and systems.

    + Apply standard engineering principles and hands-on techniques to debug, troubleshoot and solve complex design challenges.

    + Record and analyze prototype test data, ensuring thorough validation of design functionality and performance.

    + Select materials and hardware in compliance with industry specifications (e.g., DO-160) and product requirements.

    + Guide, mentor and provide technical direction on the work of technicians, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and support personnel to ensure designs are implemented effectively and aligned with project objectives.

    + Perform sustaining engineering tasks, including documentation and design updates, to support product lifecycle management and minimize service interruptions.

    + Assist supporting members of a team in the determination of engineering solutions while considering form, fit, function, thermal, structural rigidity, weight, EMI, ESD, DFM, DFT, product marketing and cost.

    + Support the coordination efforts between the Mechanical Engineering department and procurement, manufacturing, obsolescence, and material planning teams to coordinate part selection, ordering, and vendor/supplier management.

    + Work with the respective Project Manager, or when required independently, to generate and update LRU Design and Development schedules.

    + Provide technical guidance to supporting personnel to resolve design and related manufacturing problems.

    + Participate in CRB (Change Review Board) and facilitate communication for product design changes, reviews, change impact / implementation for products and parts.

    + Formulate a design plan or work from technical objectives and overall schedules as specified by senior project staff.

    + Assume ownership and responsibility for the product design.

     

    The salary or hourly wage range of $97,000 – $162,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements.

    What We’re Looking For:

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    + BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent field of study.

    + 5-8 years’ mechanical design experience.

    + Experience with consumer electronics, including servers, computers, laptops, mobile phones or wireless and networking equipment, is preferred.

    + Experience with 3D/2D 3D modeling Software Experience (Pro/E CREO, NX, CATIA or SolidWorks)

    + Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings using geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

    + Understanding of Avionics Environmental/EMI/ESD/Safety Test Requirements a plus.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    + Ample knowledge of engineering principles such as solid mechanics, materials science, heat transfer, static and dynamic structural analysis, and electromagnetic shielding.

    + Advanced ability in 3D CAD modeling (Creo or NX Preferred), creating and interpreting engineering drawings and performing tolerance analysis.

    + Highly proficient in determining and developing requirements from specifications, oral instructions, or preliminary sketches.

    + Advanced knowledge of mass production manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, die casting and CNC Machining.

    + Advanced technical writing ability to prepare reports and documentation for submission to management.

    + Highly Proficient in project planning to ensure timely completion of complex, independent tasks or one or more complex projects.

    + Advanced ability to develop and implement test methods and procedures.

    + Ability to provide technical direction to assigned project teams and perform as a technical expert and source of information.

    + Demonstrated experience providing identifiable contributions to the success of a specific product or project.

    + Use professional concepts and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

    + Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Electronic Engineering field.

    + Develop solutions to clearly defined problems of moderate to diverse scope. Analysis involves selecting the best alternative method or process from among several existing alternatives, or based on evaluation of identifiable factors.

    + Use expertise, experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    + Ability to travel to Japan and other domestic and international locations approximately 20% of the time.
