RESEARCH ANALYST SENIOR
Senior UAS Pilot – Position Description
**Description of general duties** - Provides expertise in the operation of unmanned aircraft. Develop flight test plans and procedures. Develop briefing and training materials to support flight operations. Plans and performs a wide range of in-process and final testing of analog, digital, microwave, optical and mechanical systems, and equipment under ambient and environmental conditions. Technical knowledge and experience with UAS operations to facilitate their integration safely and efficiently into the NAS. This effort requires collaboration with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, which includes manufacturers, commercial vendors, industry trade associations, technical standards organizations, academic institutions, research and development centers, governmental agencies, and other regulators. Ultimately, technical knowledge and experience to support UAS integration into the NAS without reducing existing capacity, decreasing safety, negatively impacting current operators, or increasing the risk to airspace users or persons and property on the ground any more than the integration of comparable new and novel technologies.
**UAS Position Requirements** - There are three levels of UAS Pilot on the UAS Detection and Mitigation Technologies and Airport Applications Program. Each of the three levels must meet or exceed the general positions requirements and those specific to that level.
General Position Requirements:
+ Coordinates and actively participates in ground and flight operations efforts including mission planning, execution and briefing, debriefing, air/ground crew resource management, final data processing/deliverable development, and safety.
+ Ensures compliance with company SOP’s and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
+ May develop and verify procedures for use with new aircraft features and participate in the development of operational and safety procedures and training.
+ Familiar with various unmanned aerial system hardware and software. UAS Pilots are broken down into the following categories:

Senior UAS Pilot Qualifications
+ Holds a current UAS Part 107 certificate and can demonstrate in writing (e.g., a pilot logbook) has a minimum to 200 logged UAS flight hours (not simulator).
+ Recognized by the FAA as an expert in UAS platforms and UAS Flight Operations.
+ Demonstrated success
+ performing /applying UAS data collection best practices and the program’s data management and QA/QC procedures.
+ on-boarding/training other pilots on GDIT’s’ SOPs and CONOPs, and all Test director to pilot communications,
+ GDIT’s SOP’s and CONOPs, and FAA policies and regulations that require these documents.
+ Flight waivers and authorizations, and leading other pilots
+ The program’s data collection practices, data management, and QA/QC procedures.
+ Using MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to describe and present data to program leadership and stakeholders.
+ Because of their familiarity with the following, they can provide input to the key parts of the program,
+ Flight operations used to support the different parts of the program.
+ Technologies used by the FAA to detect and/or mitigate UAS Platforms in or around an Airport Operations Area (AOA).
+ Functionality of the data management and analysis tools used on the program
+ Photogrammetry applications used to “stitch” collected image data into seamless displays.
+ Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
+ (Strongly Preferred but not required) At least 12 months of experience supporting the Program.
+ (Preferred but not required) Has started or completed a bachelor’s degree in any field. (Needed to get to the next level – an Operations Researcher)
The likely salary range for this position is $83,429 - $97,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
