    The Radiation Oncology Research Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center supports the development, maintenance, and operation of advanced radiation-producing equipment used in cancer treatment. This team plays a critical role in ensuring the functionality and safety of complex systems that support patient care and research.

     

    The primary purpose of the Accelerator Technician II position is to perform advanced technical assignments related to the maintenance and operation of accelerators and other large radiation-producing equipment. This role includes troubleshooting, repairing, and assembling mechanical and electronic systems used in radiation therapy.

     

    The ideal candidate has completed relevant technical training or holds an associate degree in electronics, engineering technology, or a related field. They bring at least two years of experience working with radiation therapy equipment or similar complex systems. Proficiency in reading schematics, soldering, and assembling mechanical components is essential. Candidates with experience in designing and fabricating electronic circuitry and mechanical systems are highly preferred.

     

    The typical work schedule will have Days, Evening or Night shifts depending upon clinical needs.

     

    Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $33.17 - Midpoint $41.34 - Maximum $49.52

    *Key Job Functions*

    • Troubleshoots radiation therapy equipment to the component level, including accelerators, simulators, CT scanners, and cobalt machines

    • Isolates equipment malfunctions using system knowledge, schematics, and parameter measurements

    • Reads and interprets electronic schematics

    • Performs soldering of electronic components

    • Constructs lifting devices for equipment handling

    • Assembles mechanical, compressed liquid, and gas components

    • Designs and fabricates electronic circuitry and mechanical systems

    • Operates and repairs radiation therapy equipment

    • Collaborates with clinical and technical teams to ensure equipment readiness

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    *EDUCATION*

    * Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

    * Preferred: Associate's Degree From an approved technical program

    *WORK EXPERIENCE*

    * Required: Four years Troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment

    * With preferred degree, two years of electronics experience is required.

    * Preferred: Experience repairing microwave technology equipment or maintaining radiotherapy equipment, such as linear accelerators and experience in systems management.
