We are seeking a talentedExecutive Directorto join our team of nearly 500 employees. Rise Up Rochester, Incorporated is a nonprofit organization that empowers the community to establish and maintain a nonviolent culture and provides support to crime victims and their families. Rise Up Rochester’s ongoing work in violence prevention and intervention in the City of Rochester, NY seeks to achieve two overarching goals: (1) Decrease gun violence in Rochester; (2) increase available safe housing capacity for victims of gun violence and their families. TheExecutive Directoris the chief executive officer of the organization, responsible for strategic leadership, overall management, fiscal stewardship, fundraising, community relations, and supervision of staff and volunteers. Reporting to the Senior Director of Program Management and RUR Board of Directors, theExecutive Directorensures that Rise Up Rochester’s mission, vision, and values are upheld and advanced.

In this role, you will
Leadership & Strategic Vision
+ Provide visionary leadership to advance the mission, goals, and strategic priorities of Rise Up Rochester.
+ Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop long-range strategies, organizational policies, and measurable objectives.
+ Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing Rise Up Rochester to funders, media, policymakers, and community partners.
Program Management & Staff Supervision
+ Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services to ensure effectiveness and community impact.
+ Supervise, mentor, and support program staff, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven work culture.
+ Ensure staff receive professional development, guidance, and resources to excel in their roles.
+ Promote accountability, clear communication, and consistent performance evaluation across the team.
Fund Development & Financial Management
+ Lead fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and special events, to sustain and grow the organization’s financial resources.
+ Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting in partnership with the Board Treasurer and finance staff/consultants.
+ Assist with grant procurement (identification of grant opportunities & drafting grant responses)
+ Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
+ Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, public officials, law enforcement, schools, faith leaders, and residents.
+ Advocate for policies and initiatives that align with Rise Up Rochester’s mission of violence prevention and victim support.
+ Enhance visibility of the organization through active community presence, media engagement, and effective communications.
Board Relations & Governance
+ Maintain open, transparent communication with the Board of Directors.
+ Support board development, recruitment, and training.
+ Provide Timey updates on organizational performance, opportunities, and challenges
Requirements
What You Bring
+ Bachelor’s degree and three to five years' experience in crime prevention services, community development or fundraising/development or equivalent education and work experience (see CCSI's equivalency chart (https://www.ccsi.org/CCSI/media/pdfs/Equivalency-chart.pdf) ).
+ Extensive experience working with youth and families involved in community violence
+ Lived experience such as direct exposure to community violence or the loss of a loved one to community violence is preferred.

+ Fundraising & Resource Development – Proven ability to secure funding through grants, donations, partnerships, and events to ensure organizational sustainability.
+ Financial Acumen – Understands nonprofit budgeting, financial reporting, and stewardship of resources to maintain fiscal health.
+ Advocacy & Public Speaking – Confidently represents the organization in public forums, media, and legislative settings to raise awareness and influence change.
+ Crisis Management & Problem-Solving – Maintains calm and effective leadership in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
+ Collaboration & Partnership-Building – Excels at fostering cooperation among multiple stakeholders to achieve collective impact.
+ Organizational Management – Skilled in operational oversight, policy development, compliance, and aligning programs with mission and goals.
+ Communication Skills – Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; able to communicate with clarity, empathy, and influence.
Required for this position are:
+ Satisfactory completion of all required background screenings.
