Position Summary
Join SUNY Geneseo as the College Advancement Communications Manager and help strengthen connections with more than 67,000 alumni, donors, and friends of the College. As a key member of the dynamic College Advancement team, you’ll create and share compelling content that inspires engagement and philanthropic support.
In this role, you’ll work closely with Advancement leadership to develop and execute integrated strategic communication plans that drive fundraising, bolster alumni engagement, and strengthen donor stewardship. You’ll craft persuasive content across email, social media, web, print, and speeches for College leadership—ensuring all messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligned with Geneseo’s strategic goals.
You’ll play a central role in writing alumni stories and donor profiles that highlight the impact of giving, developing data-informed communications campaigns with clear calls to action, coordinating messaging across channels to amplify reach, supporting the consistency of Advancement content through editing and proofreading, and monitoring key performance indicators to ensure the deliverability and goal completion of campaigns. You will collaborate with the Office of Communications and Marketing to coordinate the production of materials and the strategic placement of Advancement messaging.

Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree
+ Two or more years of professional experience in related field
+ Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
+ Experience writing content for print, social media, and web
+ Demonstrated organizational, planning, and project management skills
+ Ability to analyze and interpret data to guide communication strategies
+ Collaborative mindset
+ Attention to accuracy and detail /strong copy editing and proofreading skills
+ Ability to work under a tight deadline
+ Applicants must demonstrate commitment and ability to work effectively, equitably, and inclusively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission.
+ Applicants for this position must be eligible to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.

Function 1: Advancement Communication Strategy & Support
Oversee College Advancement’s multi-faceted internal and external communications strategy. This may include managing a content distribution calendar, creating/updating/implementing style and design guidelines, researching and operationalizing best practices for the frequency and modes of distributing advancement communications, and monitoring the success and deliverability of various communications. Proofread and edit various communications from members of the advancement team as needed. Update SharePoint, KnightNet, and associated advancement and alumni webpages with templates, forms, policies, stories, staff and volunteer photos, etc., as needed. Partner closely with the Office of Communications & Marketing.

Function 2: Fundraising & Development Initiatives
Develop overarching fundraising messaging, materials, and communication strategy. Create content, materials, and communication strategies for key fundraising and development initiatives, including, but not limited to, appeals, crowdfunding, impact reports, stewardship messaging, planned and major gifts, giving societies.

Function 3: Alumni Engagement Initiatives
Advise and collaborate with the Alumni Relations team to drive communication plans and messaging for alumni events/programs, along with the regular creation of the alumni e-newsletter. Create profiles/stories to highlight successful alumni across multiple channels.

Function 4: Social Media
Lead the College Advancement social media team. Organize regular meetings and work with the team to create and post a variety of content on alumni social media platforms, including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Where applicable, collaborate with Communications & Marketing to incorporate development and alumni relations content into the College’s social media platforms.
