    Summary About the Position: This is a Power Plant Senior Electronics Mechanic, WB-2604-00 position with the USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division. This position is with the Mountain Home Project Office location in Lakeview, AR. This position is exclusively represented by Local 2219, IBEW, AFLCIO. Responsibilities Serve as Senior Electronics Mechanic with responsibility for planning, organizing, directing , and participating in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of more complex electronics feature of power plant/hydroelectrical plant. Perform acceptance and routine tests, maintenance, installation, modification, calibration, and repair of a variety of critical complex electrical and electronic equipment. Dismantle, repair and assemble electronic equipment. Troubleshoot and diagnose electronic equipment failures to locate and correct the causes of outages or improper operation. Assists power plant electricians and District Test crew engineers in periodic testing, repair, modification etc. of a wide variety of power plant electrical equipment. Furnish technical assistance and guidance to other lower graded personnel on preventive maintenance of existing, replaced or modified electronic equipment. Responsible for supervisory control and data acquisition ((SCADA/GC) systems, their associated peripherals and auxiliaries, audio visual, video security cameras, monitors, computers, central processing units, and remote transmitting units. Responds to the plant on emergency callouts at night and on weekends/holidays to performer troubleshooting of various alarms detected by operators at a remotely located control center in accordance with negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT SENIOR ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. Perform the most difficult and complex inspections, diagnostic testing, preventative maintenance, installation and repairs of electrical/electronic equipment, and facilities including electrical and electronic features of structures, and mechanical equipment at multi-purpose hydroelectric dam, hydroelectric power generating plant, spillway, and intake structure/switchyard. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - Electronics Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Theory of Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. Machine work, welding, soldering and other specialized tasks require dexterity and the use of both hands. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment, the incumbent must be able to lift and carry heavy objects of 45 pounds and over, climb ladders, reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods and perform repeated bending. To use power plant communications, normal speech and hearing are necessary. To recognize color codes, incumbent must have normal correctable vision and normal color vision. The incumbent must be able to operate cranes and motor vehicles. The incumbent will work primarily inside around machinery in operation; in close proximity to high and low voltage circuits and climbs stairs frequently. Sometimes work will be performed outside in weather of varying degree of temperature and humidity, in tight or cramped (confined) work spaces, below ground, above water, at heights, on ladders or scaffolds, and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Occasionally the incumbent will use solvents, degreasing agents, or other chemical agents, and be assigned to protracted or irregular hours of work; use both hands in water and is exposed to silica, dust, asbestos, oil, grease, constant or excessive noise, vibration, and smoke and gas fumes. Working around machinery with moving parts, moving objects, and moving vehicles is to be expected. The incumbent will be working closely with others and/or alone depending on assigned daily activities. Personal protective safety devices will be supplied to the worker when in an area of hazardous exposure. Examples of devices are hard hats, safety shoes, safety goggles and glasses fresh air breathing masks, gloves, dust and smoke respirators, ear muffs, insulated gloves and safety grounds. When in an area of hazardous exposure, the incumbent will wear the appropriate personal safety device. Education No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
