    Description

    Overview

    The New York Public Library (NYPL) is looking for a talented tech instructor/trainer to join the TechConnect team and help New Yorkers improve their digital literacy. This position is for someone interested in community development through education and is bilingual in English and Mandarin. You will be supporting adult learners of diverse cultures, educational backgrounds, and careers to explore and engage with technology. NYPL offers technology classes, both online and in-person, at more than 80 libraries across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Topics include MS Office, Internet basics, coding languages, graphic design, 3D printing, audio production, video production, podcasting, and more.

    We are looking for someone we can count on to:

    **Own** :

    + The facilitation of technology workshops in English and Mandarin

    **Teach** :

    + Adult learners attending TechConnect classes, as well as staff looking to upskill to deliver TechConnect programming

    Learn:

    + New and emerging technologies to be incorporated into classroom content

    **Improve** :

    + Library patrons’ learning experience and knowledge of emerging technologies

    Some expectations for this role are that within:

    **1 month** , this person will:

    + Onboard, visit branches, interact with stakeholders, including Library Managers, and create goals with their manager

    **3 months** , this person will:

    + Teach 2 to 3 classes each day, monitor class attendance, and contribute to departmental projects

    **6 months and beyond** , this person will:

    + Research topics for new classes, identify gaps in service, and support NYPL initiatives

    Responsibilities

    As a Tech Training Instructor, you will

    + Design, schedule, promote, and conduct instructor-led technology training classes online and in-person, in English and Mandarin

    + Prepare equipment and materials for training, create and/or update materials as needed

    + Use effective classroom training techniques, promote active learning, adapt instruction to meet the needs of learners, and encourage individual practice

    + Collaborate with other Technology Instructors to continuously enhance technical instructional delivery, presentation skills, and content

    + Provide attendance reports of all classes conducted

    + Assist with digital literacy training for other library staff

    + Travel throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx to teach classes as needed

    + Performs ad-hoc project-related duties as required

     

    Required Education, Experience & Skills

    Required Education & Certifications

    + Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of additional related experience

    Required Experience

    + 2+ years of experience teaching/instructing/training adults how to use technology products and services

    Required Skills

    + **Bilingual in English and Mandarin required**

    + Ability to instruct in a “hands-off” manner, letting users learn by doing

    + Ability to teach in traditional and virtual classroom settings

    + Extensive knowledge of Mac and PC platforms

    + Strong aptitude for learning new and emerging technologies quickly

    + Demonstrated ability to use and provide assistance for:

    + Windows 10 and MS Office

    + Adobe CC

    + HTML/CSS and/or Python

    + Video editing and/or audio production software
