Duties Description The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks to build an equitable, transparent, and resilient financial system that benefits individuals and supports business. Through engagement, data-driven regulation and policy, and operational excellence, the Department and its employees are responsible for empowering consumers and protecting them from financial harm; ensuring the health of the entities we regulate; driving economic growth in New York through responsible innovation; and preserving the stability of the global financial system.The Department of Financial Services is seeking a candidate for the position of Data Analyst 2 in the Data Governance Unit within the Research & Innovation Division. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:• Assists Data Stewards with data governance best practices, data cleansing techniques, and data controls to create business intelligence and reporting solutions that use high quality data; • Devises methods for identifying data patterns and trends in data sources and documents how they affect data quality; • Researches new data analytical tools and policies and recommends solutions to Data Stewards tailored to data quality improvements; • Conducts or coordinates tests to ensure that business intelligence and data quality solutions are consistent with defined needs; • Tests, validates, and reformulates business solutions to ensure accurate high data quality results; • Drafts new functions or applications for the purpose of conducting data quality reviews; • Creates written reports and effectively communicates/presents data quality results and best practices to Data Stewards and other business users; • May supervise lower level staff; and• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications Appointment method: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be eligible for appointment.Non-Competitive: Seven years of experience* in data visualization, statistical models and data mining tools. *Substitution: An associate’s degree may substitute for two years of general experience; or a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of general experience. A master’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for one year of general experience; or a Ph.D. in these fields may substitute for two years of general experience

Additional Comments Please note that a change in negotiating unit may affect your salary, insurance and other benefits.Salary: The starting salary for this position is $86,681 with periodic increases up to $109,650Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.Appointment Status: Permanent
