             Plant Utilities Engineer 2 **Required Qualifications:** Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have taken and passed the required Plant Utilities Engineer 2 State Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate current Civil Service list. One year of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply. 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year. Transfers must be within two salary grades. Ability to climb, bend, stoop and do moderately heavy lifting. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and work from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).** Must successfully pass a pulmonary function test to be certified to wear protective equipment (i.e. respirators). The tests shall be provided by the Campus Utilities Department. Responsible for emergency response. **Preferred Qualifications:** High School Diploma/GED; Technical School. **Brief Description of Duties:** The Plant Utilities Engineer 2 supervises Plant Utilities Engineers I and others engaged in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and calibration of mechanical and electrical distribution in the most efficient and safest way possible. Plant Utilities Engineer 2 are working Supervisors and as such, perform any task in the Plant Utilities Engineer trade while adhering to all departmental policies and procedures. These tasks, as well as other assigned duties, must be accomplished, in a timely and effective matter. The incumbent must the ability to follow directions from senior personnel, work well with peers and subordinates, and possess strong computer and communication skills. * Provide staff supervision for departmental work schedules and assignments (INFOR), including but not limited to, ongoing preventive maintenance programs, upkeep and repair of equipment for mechanical and electrical systems. Prepare, review and sign employee timesheets. Purchasing equipment and supplies and keeping track of inventory. * Observe and inspect work while in progress and upon completion. Ensure the proper use of materials, workmanship, and safety regulations are carried out and relevant codes are followed. Ensure schedules are met and that work is performed according to requirements. * Operate and perform maintenance on all HVAC and other mechanical equipment, including but not limited to: pumps, fans, pneumatic controls, pressure-reducing valves, compressors, chemical testing and treatment, recordings, boilers, chillers, and cascades. * Review and interpret plans and specifications and prepares estimates. Orders necessary equipment and tools for routine maintenance and necessary repairs. * Respond to calls, in the event of an emergency. Evaluate, troubleshoot, and effectively repair of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues anywhere on University property. * Maintain written procedures and required records of plant operational activities, including but not limited to energy consumption, equipment malfunction, meter and gauge readings, and preventive maintenance. * Prepare standard written evaluations of subordinate employee work performance. * Handle as required, various types of hazardous materials, including but not limited to refrigerants, Freon, fuel oil, antifreeze, solvents, caustic soda, etc. * Work in confined space and other hazardous situations utilizing proper personal protective equipment and supervise others working in the same type of conditions. * Operates assigned vehicle in a safe manner obeying all Campus motor vehicle rules, regulations and parking policies. Reports accidents, safety problems or service needs promptly. * Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. **Special Notes:** This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 16 Hiring Rate $63,136. This position includes location pay of $4,000 per year.
