Description
Position Summary:
Source and evaluate domestic suppliers to provide strategic raw materials, equipment, supplies, and services. Negotiate purchase agreements to ensure that appropriate materials are available to meet customer service requirements and provide cost reductions. Purchase items based on approved requisitions and production requirements.
Equipment to be used:
PC, scanner, calculator, telephone, copy machine, fax machine
Physical Demands:
Regularly sit, hear and talk, occasionally stand or walk. Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to focus.
Mental Demands:
Read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos. Effectively present information to employees and applicants.
Working Conditions:
Quiet, temperature controlled, office environment.
Travel:
Travel based on business need - negligible.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor's Degree preferred
+ 0 to Three (3) years direct hands-on purchasing experience, to include sourcing and evaluation of suppliers in a manufacturing environment
Skills:
+ Experience with a computerized production planning system (MRP) and a formal sales and operations planning process
+ Proven track record of cost reduction success
+ Confident negotiation skills are a must
+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
+ Good communication and organizational skills
+ Willingness to be a team player
+ Ability to develop strong vendor relationships
+ Knowledge of supply-chain management
+ Ability to perform financial analyses
+ Ability to work with minimal supervision
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Based on criteria for vendor selection and retention, locate and evaluate vendors for long-term purchasing and partnering relationships.
+ Evaluate continued viability of current supply sources, based on supplier performance and ratings.
+ Negotiate the purchase of standard raw materials, supplies, and services as required to support the operations of the company.
+ Process requisitions, research products and items, clarify specifications and requirements.
+ Prepare purchase orders as required; follow up and expedite where needed.
+ Provide information to vendor partners based on Sales and Operations Planning process
+ Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing, engineering and the service department while maintaining inventory at planned levels
+ Contribute to departmental cost saving goals and opportunities
+ Perform any and all duties as assigned by Purchasing Manager
