Job Description
The Communications Representative will develop documents to generate public interest, education, and understanding of key information in OAG audit reports and other work products. The Communications Representative will also assist the Editor in reviewing and editing draft audit reports, report letters, and other OAG work products to ensure written content is grammatically correct and applies appropriate professional auditing standards and OAG editorial policies. The representative will create and monitor OAG media content using a variety of communication formats including the OAG website, audio, video, email, print, and social media platforms. The representative will review other OAG publicly issued documents and its Internet presence and provide recommendations to improve presentation, readability, and
understanding of OAG audits across the Legislature, Michigan citizens, and media.
Required Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising,
communication arts, marketing, public relations, or a related field.

One year of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a
Communications Representative 9.
Communications Representative P11
Two years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a
Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Communications Representative 9
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative
may be substituted for the education requirement.
OR
Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in the
following areas: English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts,
marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be
substituted for the education requirement.
OR
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a
Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
Additional Requirements and Information
Knowledge of:
• Principles and practices of communications representation.
• Operational and technical problems involved in the administration of providing information and educating the public
using various media and social platforms.
• Preparation and use of all types of informational media; including digital/social media, newspaper, television, radio,
and video programs.
• Proper English usage, spelling, and grammar.
Ability to:
• Write professionally, clearly, and succinctly.
• Plan, coordinate, and expedite work projects.
• Use social media branding as a communication platform.
• Communicate with others professionally, clearly, and succinctly both verbally and in writing.
Desirable to:
• Possess analytical skills and the ability to analyze a variety of data.
• Interpret laws, rules, regulations, and a variety of professional standards.
• Have knowledge of the principles and methods of research and to be able to research and gain a thorough knowledge
of professional auditing standards and OAG reporting requirements.
• Possess a keen attention to detail and the ability to edit draft reports.
• Analyze and process complex information and data in a timely manner.
• Favorably interact with OAG personnel at all levels.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand 13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
Bonus Programs:Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums.
Military Pay Differential:Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
