    Required Skills:

    Research Scientist Responsibilities:

    1. Perform research and develop solutions to computer software and computer hardware problems.

    2. Research, design, and develop new optimization algorithms and techniques to improve the efficiency and performance of Meta’s platforms.

    3. Design and implement large-scale distributed software systems to serve large numbers of complex requests simultaneously and without failure.

    4. Utilize technical research background, train new ranking models, and run experiments.

    5. Create tools for migrating large bodies of user data across systems for new products, scalability efforts, and development of new core infrastructure.

    6. Use machine learning, statistics, or other data techniques to build algorithms.

    7. Suggest, collect, and synthesize system requirements from stakeholders and create effective feature roadmaps.

    8. Analyze and resolve computer challenges from a system engineering standpoint.

    9. Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

    10. Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    11. Requires a PhD degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Color Science, Vision Science, Perceptual Psychology, Optics, Computational Imaging, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field

    12. OR completion of all coursework towards a PhD degree in in Color Science, Vision Science, Perceptual Psychology, Optics, Computational Imaging, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field

    13. Requires completion of a university-level course, research project, internship, or thesis in the following:

    14. Display characterization interaction with visual encoding processes in the generation of visual artifacts

    15. Spatio-temporal contrast sensitivity, low-level vision, color perception, retinal physiology and modeling

    16. Standard image quality metrics, and deriving new metrics for novel environments and/or display architectures

    17. Complete image processing pipeline, from capture through reproduction through professional experience, publications and/or academic training

    18. Modeling visual and color perception in AR/VR

    19. Conducting research investigating perceptual issues with displays, or visual processing

    20. Hardware design and prototyping hardware systems to simulate issues with proposed and novel display and hardware architecture

    21. Communicating complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner and

    22. MATLAB or Python programming for stimulus display and analysis

    Public Compensation:

    $211,654/year to $240,240/year + bonus + equity + benefits
