    Job Description

    *ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES*

    * This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent Parks employees serving in the Administrative Park & Recreation Manager civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) permanent Parks employees in or on leave from a comparable title (e.g. Administrative Staff Analyst or Administrative Manager) or 4) Parks employees who are reachable on a comparable civil service list or qualify for a comparable title.     Nestled in Bronx Community Board 4, Franz Sigel Park, Joyce Kilmer Park, Macombs Dam Park, Mill Pond Park, and Reverend T. Wendell Foster Park form a gateway to the Concourse, Melrose, and South Bronx areas of The Bronx.

    Major Responsibilities

    - Under the supervision of the Bronx Borough Commissioner, work closely with regulatory officials and Parks staff to oversee and manage the public use of the five parks in the Lower Concourse area and additional parks that will be developed.

     

    - Set Capital priorities, raise funds and oversee all aspects of Capital projects including the upcoming reconstruction of the track and field in Macombs Dam Park.

     

    - Work closely with the Friends of 4 Parks, the 161st St. Business Improvement District (BID), and Parks licensed and concessioned partners including the New York Yankees and the Bronx Children’s Museum. Assist when necessary with operational needs and oversight. Plan and implement revenue generating projects.

     

    - Attend community board meetings and respond to the requests made by community organizations, partnership groups and public officials.

     

    - Consult in the preparation of landscape plans and contract documents necessary for construction and planting by Parks' restoration crews and contractors.

     

    - Build and expand partnerships with volunteers, corporations and community groups.

     

    - Obtain funding from elected officials and approvals for City and privately funded projects. Seek out and write grant proposals.

     

    - Develop alternative sources of private and public funding by developing relationships with local businesses, community groups and Federal and State agencies.

     

    - Arrange and oversee all special events and develop ongoing public programs. Provide public information and education by organizing cultural and educational programs workshops and special events.

     

    - Potential for direct management and oversight of daily Maintenance and Operations staffing depending upon the allocation of resources.

     

    - Attend meetings and events with and for the Borough Commissioner.

    ADMINISTRATIVE PARKS & RECREAT - 10072

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or

    2. High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or

    3.Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.

    Salary Min: $125,000.00
