    The Senior Accountant is a part of Akima’s Shared Services Corporate Accounting team. This position reports to the Direct of Accounting and has a central role in managing and reconciling various balance sheet accounts for over 60 legal entities. The Senior Accountant is part of a team who will reconcile, analyze, and resolve a series of general ledger accounts and implement process improvements for the Company’s financial reporting. The individual will be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment to support many of the accounting processes related to month-end close, quarterly reporting, and year-end financial audit preparation.

     

    This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Herndon, VA.

    Responsibilities

    + **Financial Close & Reporting:**

    + Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for 60+ legal entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and internal policies.

    + Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.

    + Ensure proper consolidation of subsidiary financials, including intercompany eliminations and variance analysis.

    + **Lease Accounting:**

    + Manage accounting for operating and finance leases, including journal entries, leased asset lifecycle tracking, and maintenance of lease schedules in compliance with ASC 842.

    + Perform updates for additions, disposals, and transfers of leased assets.

    + **Payroll Accounting:**

    + Reconcile various payroll tax related accounts. Identify process issues and present recommendations and root cause analysis on how to improve operations.

    + Query and manage large data sets with the ability to summarize results and identify patterns amongst numerous transactions.

    + Partner with the payroll team to help them understand the implications of their processes and present solutions that will improve the team’s performance

    + **Intercompany & Reconciliations:**

    + Perform reconciliation of due-to/due-from accounts and Intercompany Work Orders (IWOs), resolving discrepancies efficiently.

    + Ensure accuracy and transparency in intercompany transactions and balances.

    + Coordinate intercompany transactions and reporting with NANA parent company

    + **Audit & Compliance:**

    + Prepare audit schedules and respond to inquiries to support annual audits and internal reviews.

    + Maintain and enhance internal controls, ensuring adherence to SOX or other regulatory frameworks as applicable.

    + **Process Improvement & Systems:**

    + Coordinate with IT and finance systems teams to implement enhancements, troubleshoot issues, and optimize ERP functionality.

    + Identify and lead initiatives to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.

    + **Leadership & Collaboration:**

    + Provide guidance and support to accounting staff and cross-functional teams.

    + Collaborate with Facility, Tax, Treasury, and Operations to provide financial insights and support business decisions.

    + **Special Projects:**

    + Contribute to strategic initiatives, including system implementations, reorganizations, and M&A integration.

    + Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

    + Strong Excel skills with proficiency in financial modelling. Ability to summarize and reconcile large amounts of data using formulas such as SUMIFS, MATCH, and XLOOKUP. Proficient user of Excel pivot tables.

    + Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting.

    + Strong knowledge of US GAAP, lease accounting (ASC 842), financial reporting, and accounting principles.

    + Understanding of payroll accounting including gross pay, taxes, and benefits

    + Proven ability to manage complex projects, and drive process improvements.

    + Detail-oriented, excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

    + Ability to manage to strict deadlines for month-end close and year-end audit.

    + Communication and interpersonal skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in GL accounting for government contractor.

    + Mix of public accounting and private company experience.

    + CPA or CPA candidate.

    + Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint.

    + Previous experience at an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC).
