Position Summary and Purpose: The Material Handling Specialist plays a key role in coordinating the movement of materials across the entire plant. This is a cross-functional position responsible for performing a wide variety of material handling duties including receiving, order picking, and the movement and organization of materials. This position requires strong attention to detail, safe operating practices, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 1st Shift: 6 or 7am start time – 2:30 or 3:30pm (8 hours plus a 30-minute lunch break)
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
+ Pick materials from vertical storage towers and deliver to designated work areas.
+ Receive oral or written work assignments, pull and stage materials, and identify items by part and lot number.
+ Load and unload incoming and outgoing shipments using appropriate lifting equipment.
+ Organize and store plate, bar, and structural steel in a safe and accessible manner.
+ Build skids, package parts and components, and assist in preparing machines for shipment.
+ Perform transactions in Epicor (ERP) to maintain accurate material records.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company standards and quality procedures.
+ Flex across functions as needed to ensure continuous material flow throughout the plant.
+ Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and carts to move materials throughout the facility.
Education and Experience
Required:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
+ One (1) year of prior experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ General knowledge of forklift and material handling equipment operation
+ Ability to multitask and follow detailed instructions
+ Attention to accuracy and safety in all tasks
+ General PC and ERP system knowledge (Epicor preferred)
Tools, Technology, and Equipment Used
Forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and hand measuring and marking tools, and computer systems.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is highly mobile. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms and climbing ladders daily. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.
