This person will need to be able to be onsite 4 days a week. Huntington can accept candidates at the following cities: Columbus OH, Cincinnati OH, Dallas TX, Indianapolis IN, Hagerstown MD, Chicago Il, Detroit MI, Minnetonka MN, Houston TX, Charlotte NC, and Fairlawn OH.

This is a contract to hire position. The target conversion salary for this position is $130-140k.

This person will be part of the API Gateway team. The API Gateway team is responsible for API architecture and standards across the bank. The person previously in this role has accepted another role in the bank on the architecture team.

This person must have experience with Apigee X, which is Google's most recent API management platform that was released in 2021. The perfect candidate would have experience with legacy Apigee prior to that. Since Apigee X is a GCP specific service, the qualified candidate must have solid GCP experience. Lastly, this candidate must have JavaScript experience.

Huntington is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Apigee Tech Lead to join our API Gateway and Developer Experience team. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building and scaling our enterprise API platform using Apigee X on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You’ll work closely with engineering, cloud, and security teams to deliver secure, high-performance APIs that power our digital ecosystem.

This role is ideal for a technologist who enjoys solving complex integration challenges, mentoring developers, and influencing enterprise-wide API strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Architect and implement API proxies, shared flows, and custom policies using Apigee X.

Design and manage GCP infrastructure components supporting Apigee X:

Global Load Balancer, Managed Instance Groups (MIGs), Compute Engine VMs

Cloud Armor, VPC networking, firewall rules, and peering

Develop reusable shared flows for logging, authentication, quota enforcement, and error handling.

Implement service callouts to internal and external systems using secure and scalable patterns.

Build custom policies using JavaScript, Python, and Apigee extensions.

Integrate with Ping Identity for OAuth2, SAML, and JWT-based authentication.

Design and enforce advanced security patterns including JWKS validation, mTLS, rate limiting, and mobile integration.

Drive CI/CD automation for API deployments using Cloud Build, Artifact Registry, and Terraform.

Monitor and optimize API performance using Apigee Analytics, Cloud Monitoring, and BigQuery.

Mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

10+ years of experience in API development and integration.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
