Job Description
Texas State University Police Officers play a vital crime prevention role on campus. Campus Police Officers’ responsibilities go beyond the traditional law enforcement role including such tasks as supporting, counseling, and mentoring our students. Our delivery of police services is consistent with the President’s Task Force On 21st Century Policing, Ultimately, UPD supports the Texas State University goal of promoting the success of all students.
Job Duties
+ Complete the hiring, selection process and be offered employment with the Texas State University Police Department as a Police Officer Trainee.
+ Complete the selection/enrollment requirements to be admitted into a Texas Peace Officer Licensing Academy.
+ Complete a Texas Peace Officer Licensing Academy within one year of being hired by Texas State University Police Department.
+ Upon completion of a Texas Peace Officer Licensing Academy, successfully Pass the Texas Peace Officer’s examination within three attempts at taking the test.
+ Upon passing the Texas Peace Officer Licensing examination and being commissioned as a Texas Peace Officer, perform all the duties of Texas Peace Officer as outlined under the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 2.13.
Additional Information to Applicants
+ Step plan rates are due to increase on January 1, 2026, with Step 0 starting at $5250.00 monthly.
+ Applicants must be able to pass a background check, psychological exam, occupational step test, and a polygraph test.
+ This position requires driving University vehicles.
