    Description and Qualifications

     

    Reporting to the Vice President, Clinical Operations, the Director, Hospital Development (HD) has primary accountability for the successful operation of the Hospital Development department. Through the planning and execution of strategic priorities, the Director ensures that the HD department effectively and efficiently serves the organization’s mission. The Director also ensures regulatory compliance and financial sustainability. In addition, the Director serves as an organizational leader as a member of the Extended Senior Leadership team.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Leadership Responsibilities

    + Develops and leads annual strategic and operations planning process and ensures implementation of annual departmental goals and objectives.

    + Responsible in partnership with the Operations Directors team for development and implementation of the ODS strategic plan and ensures the initiatives are carried out to achieve KPIs.

    + Is responsible for operations of Hospital Development, including compliance with all current federal, state, and/or local laws and/or regulations, including those of the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), Uniform Anatomical Gift Act (UAGA), compliance with the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) Standards and all ODS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Policies (POLs), and Work Instructions (WIs).Cultivates a programmatic approach to achieving optimal organ and tissue donation rates. Actively participates in organizational strategy development.

    + Develops and ensures consistent application and compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

    + Participates in a strong collaboration with the Director team to achieve organizational objectives for organ and tissue donation outcomes.

    + Participates on regional and national committees, as appropriate.

    + Works in concert with Quality Department and others to reduce risk and ensure quality processes are in place.

    + Is responsible for continuous process improvement. Develops measures of success and utilizes data reports to improve process and overall outcomes in relation to department performance.

    + Responsible for on-going departmental audit preparation.

    + Develops, manages, and leads the departmental budget. Routinely engages in processes to improve management of costs and potentially reduce costs and involves Hospital Development Managers as appropriate.

    + Partners closely with Communications and External Affairs teams on projects impacting hospital partnerships and performance metrics.

    + Manages and leads assigned staff to plan, organize, and monitor the implementation of effective hospital development and family support strategies that will improve donation outcomes.

    + Ensures effective implementation of departmental strategic initiatives.

    + Serves as role model for accountability for achieving results.

    + Monitors departmental Key Performance Indicators and guides the development of plans to maintain or improve performance.

    + Develops and ensures consistent application and compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

    + Manages ongoing performance feedback and personal development plans.

    + Identifies areas of opportunities for staff development or improvement and initiates action to address with a strong focus on staff retention.

    + Ensures completion of annual training needs of Hospital Development staff.

    + Is responsible for effective on-boarding of HD department team members.

    + Provides effective coaching to engage, support, and motivate staff to realize their greatest potential in service of LifeCenter’s mission.

     

    Business Development

     

    + Leads and oversees annual communication, retention, and acquisition strategy for all current hospital partners with LifeCenter tissue recovery agreements.

    + Is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and securing new tissue agreements.

    + Is responsible for driving strategy to increase field death referrals and donors for LifeCenter tissue

    + Leads RFP process for obtaining additional tissue accounts, as needed.

    + Identifies key business relationships and actively participates in building strong relationships with current and potential clients.

    + Collaborates with senior leadership to secure, retain, and grow organ and tissue donation in all hospital accounts.

    + Leads development of customized, targeted strategies to attain additional tissue agreements.

    + Leads strategic meetings to develop informative presentations and collateral to communicate partner benefits.

    + Presents and delivers information to potential tissue partners at client meetings.

    + Coordinates and assesses business generation activities.

    + Leads process for potential client questions and follow-up call questions.

     

    Hospital Relations

     

    + Is responsible for effective communication, education, and donation program development for donor hospitals throughout service area

    + Aligns hospital accounts with appropriate skillset needed to ensure an effective donation program

    + Supports HD staff in the hospital, as needed.

    + Maintains high level relationships with key donor hospitals to support the donation process and program development.

    + This position requires regular, time-sensitive travel to and from donor hospitals across the region. As such, the ability to independently and reliably commute between locations is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role. Due to the nature of the work, which may involve urgent or unscheduled travel, personal driving capability is a critical operational need.

     

    Medical Examiner (ME) /Coroner Relations

     

    + Ensures medical examiner educational activities are coordinated and supportive of the organ and tissue donation process for all ME/Coroners in the LifeCenter service area.

    + Is responsible for ensuring effective partnerships with all ME/Coroners in the LifeCenter service area to improve outcomes for organ and tissue donation.

    + Provides strategic direction of Hospital Development Department on collaborative work with ME/Coroners.

     

    External Donation Partner Relations

     

    + Maintains relationships with Statline, Lion’s World Vision, LifeNet Health and iTransplant specifically related to hospital development and family support.

     

    Marketing/Communications

     

    + Participates in the oversight of the development of marketing/communications strategy and related tools used in hospitals to increase organ and tissue donation.

    + Ensures consistent application and representation of LifeCenter brand and messaging among HD staff and activities.

    + Plans programing designed to create and maintain a positive image and presence for the organization at all hospitals in our DSA.

     

    Supervision

     

    + This position is accountable for the direction and strategy for assigned department(s) and responsible for the direct oversight of the leadership for that team. As a result of responsibilities and expertise, will provide direction to various individuals within the department. This position is a member of the extended senior leadership team of LifeCenter Northwest and has influence interdepartmentally as well as cross functionally.

    + Understanding of the hospital system environment.

    + Proven ability to manage complex administrative systems and budgets, ensure compliance, and cultivate a high-performance culture through effective communication, data-driven decision-making, and continuous process improvement.

    + Ability to work in a matrixed, fast-paced, constantly changing and ambiguous environment.

    + Ability to build relationships based on trust, diplomacy and collaboration at all levels.

    + Effective communication and presentation skills.

    + Must possess initiative and a desire for continuous improvement.

    + Must be able to work effectively with others, some in remote locations.

    Physical Activities/Requirements

     

    + This position requires the supervision of employees that may be in any part of LifeCenter Northwest’s donor service area.

    + Travel is essential to this position; consequently, the employee must be prepared to travel by automobile and airplane.

    + This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.

    + This position may require the ability to operate specialized equipment, such as audio-visual equipment.

    + The individual must have the ability to speak clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the phone.

    + Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    + Generally, working conditions do not require exposure to hazardous materials nor extremes in health and safety hazards. Work is normally performed in an office or hospital setting as well as other business environments.

    + This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required.

    + The employee is required to move up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.

    ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT

    + Because of the nature of this position, the incumbent may need to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, sometimes without advance notice.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

    + A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, business or related field.

    + Master’s degree preferred.

    + A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in the health care industry is required. OPO experience is preferred.

    + A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a management position with proven leadership and supervisory skills

    + Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile or the ability to arrive and depart from work and work-related functions at expected times.

    + Must also possess valid state or federally issued identification suitable for air travel.

    + Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or applicable medical or religious exemption will be required as a condition of employment upon offer.

Employees enjoy paid holidays throughout the calendar year and earn 119 hours of PTO annually (to start) as well as Health Time Off hours that is earned 1 hour per 30 worked, paid living donor leave, two weeks paid jury duty leave after 6 months of service, and three weeks of paid parental leave after one year of service is complete.     The pay range for this role is $132,800 - $199,200. Where a candidate’s compensation falls within this range is based on several bona fide factors such as experience, tenure, and other specialized knowledge. LifeCenter Northwest is committed to providing its employees equitable and competitive compensation.

     

    This position is eligible for additional compensation to the base pay rate in the form of the Management Incentive Compensation Program.
