In this position...
The Global Thermal Systems and Mounts team is seeking an individual to lead core engineering of the Thermal Management and Refrigerant Subsystems (TMSS & RSS) group. This role will develop and test the overall Thermal and Refrigerant sub system to verify system durability, performance and efficiency.
The TMSS & RSS group reviews hardware selection, system designs, manages bench signoff testing, and supports vehicle CAE and physical testing. In additional you will oversee management of an internal lab and coordinate external testing resources. In this role, you will work with a broad range of interfacing teams including Core, CAE, Applications, Facilities, and Suppliers.
What you'll do…
+ Lead Thermal and Refrigerant Sub System (TMSS/RSS) Engineering Group
+ Lead and Manage Internal MPG Thermal & Air Handling Subsystem Lab (AHSS)
+ Lead development of Refrigerant System Modeling & CAE
+ Manage and Coordinate External testing resources (Budget, SOW, Scheduling, PO)
+ Deliver Testing results for Program Milestone assessments
+ Develop Solutions for system design, system bench setup and bench performance issues (TMSS, RSS and AHSS)
+ Plan for future Refrigerant types to Ensure proper/safe handling of within lab test environment (R1234ze, R290, etc.)
+ Manage department test vehicle fleet
+ Global Travel may be required
Additional Responsibilities
+ Manage a team of individuals that own program specific testing
+ Manage communication with program teams for coordination of data and results
+ Balance tradeoffs to optimize system design and performance
+ Perform analyses to provide physics-based understanding of system function and error states
+ Manage Lab Efficiency, FTT, Maintenance, Improvements and Hardware updates.
+ Manage test plans and determining test location (internal or external) for all programs balancing internal and multiple supplier’s resources and capability
+ Solve Bench setup, controls, data acquisition and equipment issues (TMSS, RSS, AHSS)
You'll have...
Minimum Requirements:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related degree
+ Minimum 7+ years of experience in Automotive industry
+ Minimum 5+ years of experience in Refrigerant Sub-systems and/or Thermal Systems
+ Ability to lead a team of engineers with varied levels of experience in Thermal and Refrigerant Testing
+ Ability to Manage Lab Operations, Improvements and Repairs (TMSS, RSS, AHSS)
+ Demonstrated ability to work across organizations internally and externally in a collaborative manner
+ Ability to Work in Dearborn, MI and Romeo, MI (MPG)

Preferred
+ Refrigerant and Thermal System Lab Testing experience or management
+ Understanding of control systems, equipment PLC, CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.
+ Understanding of the Ford GTDS and/or GPDS
+ Proficiency in TcVis Mockup, 3DX, Teamcenter, FEDE
+ Proficiency in Date Acquisition Software (IPEMotion, ATI, etc.)
+ Proficiency with Test equipment (TC’s, Pressure Transducers, Flowmeters, oil concentration, RPM sensors, Power supplies, etc.)
+ Proficiency in optimization methodology
+ Experience in thermal system attributes including climate comfort
+ Experience in testing components and sub-systems as it relates to Thermal Systems
+ Deep understanding of requirements as it relates to Thermal Systems
+ Strong communication skills
+ Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and efficiently communicate results to management
+ Work in a flexible environment transforming unclear information into concise deliverables.
+ Design & Release experience and vehicle launch
+ Ability to recognize shortcomings of current processes and devise improved methods to improve quality/cost/timing
