Position Summary:
The Jewish Federation of Detroit, a leading philanthropic organization serving the Metro Detroit community, is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Director of Information Technology to lead its technology and data initiatives.
This senior leader will oversee a team of 8 IT and Data Analytics professionals to deliver robust, secure and user-centered technology services and data solutions. This role is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of all IT systems, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, hardware and software, data governance, analytics, AI strategy and implementation, end-user support, and digital innovation.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Director ensures that technology aligns with organizational goals, enhances operational efficiency, and safeguards the Federation’s digital and data assets. This position is critical to advancing the Federation’s philanthropic mission by supporting reliable systems, actionable insights, and a strong culture of security, innovation and service.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Develop and execute short-term and long-term technology strategies that align with the Federation’s mission, advance its programs, and drive operational excellence.
+ Lead and mentor a high-performing team of IT and Data Analytics professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, service excellence and accountability.
+ Serve as the organization’s technology and AI visionary, staying ahead of emerging trends and translating them into strategic initiatives that create value and impact.
+ Oversee the end-to-end management of the Federation’s IT ecosystem, including hardware and software platforms, network infrastructure, cloud services, telecommunications and end-user devices.
+ Ensure optimal system performance, availability and scalability through proactive planning, monitoring, and infrastructure investment.
+ Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with technology vendors and service providers, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organizational needs.
+ Design, implement and enforce robust cybersecurity frameworks to protect sensitive organizational and community data, while promoting a culture of security awareness across the organization.
+ Lead risk assessments, compliance initiatives and security audits, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and best practices in data privacy and protection.
+ Develop and maintain a comprehensive incident response and disaster recovery plan to ensure business continuity and resilience.
+ Oversee the organization’s CRM and data systems, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and secure handling of confidential data.
+ Champion data governance and analytics, enabling cross-functional teams to leverage data for strategic insights, automation, impact measurement, and donor engagement.
+ Provide executive oversight of IT support operations, ensuring responsive, high-quality service delivery to approximately 100 employees.
+ Establish and maintain IT policies, documentation standards, and end-user training programs that promote consistency, efficiency, and organizational knowledge.
+ Manage the IT department budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with strategic priorities.
+ Assess and implement technology investments and upgrades, prioritizing scalability, sustainability, and mission alignment.
Requirements & Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
+ 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
+ Experience managing an internal IT department, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
+ Demonstrated experience with AI strategy, data analytics, or digital transformation initiatives.
+ Proficiency with IT infrastructure, including network administration, servers, cloud platforms, database management, cybersecurity best practices, and enterprise software systems.
+ Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics or equivalent), data visualization tools, and integration platforms.
+ Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
+ Strong project management and organizational skills.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
