    Community Legal Services, Inc. of Philadelphia (CLS) is a non-profit public interest agency providing free civil legal services to low-income Philadelphia residents. As the largest provider of free civil legal services in the Philadelphia area, CLS is both locally and nationally renowned as a premier legal services provider dedicated to ensuring access to justice for all low-income individuals and communities. CLS has ten legal units covering a wide range of civil legal services. CLS’s Human Resources Department is a dynamic team of individuals who support the people and culture of CLS by providing a wide variety of essential services to our 180+ employees. The HR team functions include payroll, benefits, hiring, onboarding and offboarding, maintaining personnel files, oversight of personnel policies, assisting with personnel matters, new employee orientation, performance management, and any other necessary HR tasks.

     

    The HR Associate – Workplace Policies & Compliance is responsible for supporting the Human Resources department and management team in ensuring organizational compliance with workplace policies, employment laws, and internal procedures. A primary focus of this role is monitoring and enforcing compliance with the organization’s case management timekeeping policies and hybrid work policy, ensuring consistent adherence across all departments. This position also supports broader HR compliance functions, including policy development, communication, training, and issue resolution.  The person in this role will work primarily in a collaborative fashion with the HR team and the Family Advocacy Unit Managing Attorney while also providing support to other legal managers as needed.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of workplace policies, procedures, and employee handbooks to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.

    + Monitor and track policy adherence, investigate non-compliance issues, and recommend corrective actions.

    + Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding workplace policies, standards of conduct, and compliance expectations.

    + Support internal audits and compliance reviews, maintaining accurate documentation and records.

    + Assist with drafting policy updates and communicating changes across the organization.

    + Collaborate with HR team members to ensure training and educational programs on compliance topics are developed and delivered.

    + Prepare reports on compliance trends, risks, and corrective measures.

    + Stay up to date with changes in labor laws, regulations, and HR compliance best practices.

    + Provide general HR administrative support as needed.

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

    + 1–3 years of experience in human resources, compliance, or a related function.

    + Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

    + Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HRIS preferred.

    Work Environment: Standard office environment (with hybrid/remote flexibility as applicable). Occasional travel may be required for training or audits.

    Compensation: This is a part-time position. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
