    General Description

    Corporate Security and Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Conifer Realty’s integrated security, safety, and risk management strategy across all corporate offices and multifamily communities. This role spans Conifer’s operating footprint in all existing territories. The position ensures consistent security and safety standards across a diverse portfolio, mitigating risks to employees, residents, and assets by developing and executing an operationally focused strategy to mitigate risk. The Corporate Security and Safety Director also serves as the primary operational liaison to Conifer’s captive insurance company and Risk Management function, ensuring incident data, claims management, and loss control programs are fully integrated with security and safety operations.

    + This position is not fully remote. Candidates must reside in Rochester, NY or within commuting distance to maintain in-office presence. While some remote work is permitted, regular in-office attendance is an essential function of the role. The Rochester Resource Center will serve as your base office.

    Job Description

    + Develop and maintain Conifer-wide security, safety, and risk management policies, programs and strategies, adaptable to the regulatory and enforcement environments of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

    + Build and sustain close working relationships with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies across all operating markets.

    + Establish a network of public safety contacts to facilitate ongoing communication, intelligence sharing, and joint planning for events, emergencies, and crime prevention initiatives.

    + Coordinate with law enforcement on investigations, incident follow-up, and community safety programs impacting Conifer residents and properties.

    + Establish and manage a centralized incident reporting, investigation, and tracking platform aligned with both risk management and insurance reporting requirements.

    + Establish and oversee a fleet risk management program focused on driver qualification and training needs for both owned and non owned vehicle exposures.

    + Conduct security and safety risk assessments leveraging law enforcement data, regional crime statistics, claims history, inherent exposure potential and site evaluations.

    + Partner with Development, Design, Construction, and IT to integrate law enforcement-informed security, safety measures and the potential use of technology solutions (AI) into new developments, major renovations, and system upgrades.

    + Oversee security, safety, and risk mitigation vendor contracts, including negotiations, compliance oversight, and performance reviews.

    + Work with the captive insurance company on claim investigations, law enforcement liaison activities, and loss control recommendations.

    + Deliver quarterly security, safety, and risk management briefings to senior leadership and the Board, including law enforcement engagement updates, incident trends, and geographic risk analysis.

    + Lead emergency preparedness and disaster recovery planning with direct involvement from public safety agencies to ensure coordinated response capabilities.

    + Partner with Marketing/PR to manage public communications related to incidents, ensuring coordination with law enforcement messaging and protecting Conifer’s reputation.

    Experience

    + 10+ years of senior leadership experience in law enforcement, corporate security, or military service, with a track record of multi-jurisdictional agency collaboration.

    + Multifamily housing or commercial real estate experience strongly preferred.

    Education

    + Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement administration, risk management, or related field preferred.

    + Protective services or law enforcement academy training required.

    Requirements

    + Ability to implement a strategic vision about managing risk.

    + Proven ability to develop and maintain high-trust, productive relationships with law enforcement and public safety officials at all levels.

    + Deep understanding of law enforcement operations, investigative processes, and public safety protocols.

    + Strong analytical skills to interpret law enforcement and incident data for operational and strategic decision-making.

    + Exceptional communication skills to influence and collaborate with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and community partners.

    + Demonstrated ability to lead incident response and de-escalation efforts in high-pressure environments.

    + Valid divers license and ability to travel frequently throughout Conifer’s operating footprint.

    The salary range for this position is $165,000.00 - $185,000.00. The actual compensation may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, location, etc. This range does not include additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
