    Full-Time Lecturer of Public Administration (Non-Tenure Track), Department of Community Development and Applied Economics

     

    The University of Vermont’s NASPAA -accredited Master of Public Administration ( MPA ) program seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer to join us in preparing ethical, forward thinking public service leaders. We seek a public administration generalist with significant applied experience who is committed to excellence in teaching and student engagement across core and elective topics within the MPA curriculum. This is an academic-year (9-month) appointment to begin Fall 2026.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Teach a variety of core and electives in the MPA curriculum, using active learning, applied projects, and evidence-based teaching practices

    + Contribute to one or more of the following priority teaching areas: human resource management, policy process and analysis, organizational theory, and/or public budgeting

    + Innovate in course design and delivery, adding to our emerging online programming

    + Mentor students at all stages, supporting professional and academic growth, internships, and applied projects

    + Participate in program, department, and university service, including contributing to program and curriculum development, assessment, and community outreach

    About the Program:

    The University of Vermont ( UVM ) MPA promotes ethical leadership, evidence-based decision-making, long-term sustainability, and community resilience. As Vermont’s sole NASPAA -accredited graduate option in public service, the MPA emphasizes transdisciplinary learning, social responsibility, and inclusive public service. The curriculum features community-engaged, forward-looking learning experiences designed to equip graduates with adaptable skills for effective leadership in evolving and complex public and nonprofit environments.

     

    The MPA is housed in the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics ( CDAE ), part of UVM’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences ( CALS ). CDAE encompasses an energetic and diverse scholarly community that spans across disciplines such as public policy, community development, applied economics, public communication, community-centered design, and community entrepreneurship, making a meaningful impact both locally and globally. In addition to the MPA , CDAE supports four undergraduate majors, nine minors, a master’s program in Community Development and Applied Economics, a doctoral degree centered on Sustainable Development Policy, Economics, and Governance, as well as accelerated master’s and certificate pathways.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or other closely related field (doctorate strongly preferred)

    + Demonstrated effectiveness as a college or university instructor, including online and in-person modalities

    + Significant applied or professional experience in the public, nonprofit, or government

    + Commitment to advancing public service values in public administration education

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Doctorate in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Political Science, or other closely related field

    + Experience in course design, curriculum development, and/or innovation in online teaching

    + Engagement with professional organizations and communities of practice in public service

    + Evidence of fostering ethical leadership, resilience, and community engagement in course delivery

    + Evidence of teaching effectiveness will be requested from those interviewed (may include formal teaching evaluations, comments from students, teaching observations, syllabi, etc.)
