About the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) :
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is the State planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services. The institute develops long-range strategies for the effective administration of Indiana's criminal and juvenile justice systems and administers state and federal funds to carry out these strategies.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute is the designated State Administering Agency for Federal Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Violence Against Women, and Department of Health and Human Services grants within Indiana. These sources of funding are the largest sources of funding for local entities and agencies that provide direct services to victims of crime, including domestic violence and sexual assault.
Further, ICJI is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with local, state, and federal entities to identify, assess, plan, resource, and evaluate new and emerging issues facing the criminal justice and public safety spectrum. ICJI works with local, state, and federal entities to evaluate programs associated with the prevention, detection & solution of crimes; law enforcement, and criminal/juvenile justice, to improve and coordinate all aspects of law enforcement and criminal/juvenile justice. The agency evaluates policies, programs, and legislation designed to address these issues. ICJI is designated as the State Administering Agency for distribution of federal funds, and as the State Statistical Analysis Center for research About the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
Role Overview:
The Research & Planning Division serves in a general research capacity for the entire agency, therefore the range of duties cover all ICJI divisions and research needs. The Research Associate serves as the intermediary between the Division Directors and the Research Division and works to provide direction and guidance for data collection and projects. The Research Associate is also responsible for working with Division Directors to promote the goals of research and aid in developing strategies for implementing research initiatives.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $55,224.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Contribute to development of effective reports and compelling data visualizations to communicate findings with target audience(s)
+ Document and share best practices for reporting with internal and external partners.
+ Conduct research on topics of importance to the agency, analyze and interpret the data and prepare and present findings in reports or data visualizations.
+ Present key findings and summaries of results to internal and external stakeholders.
+ Assist in the development of division priorities and funding decisions based on evaluation of funded programs.
+ Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop novel ways of using and reporting out data.
+ Directly support the activities of the agency through the use of specialty software, data loading/uploading, mass editing of datasets, validity checks, queries/scripts and data interpretation and prepares the results for use in custom reports, charts and maps.
+ Acts as technical consultant to the staff, clarifying and interpreting all procedures, and providing references.
+ Stay current in local, State and national criminal justice research, trends and issues.
+ Adheres to HIPAA, PII, PHI and other state statutes concerned with protecting data confidentiality and individual privacy.
+ Perform other related duties as required.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either
+ a Bachelor's Degree with some experience, or
+ at least 2+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
+ Experience with data manipulation, including cleansing, standardizing, and transforming.
+ Experience with Tableau.
+ Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret and correlate technical material and make recommendations on implementation in current programs.
+ Must be highly organized, analytical, accurate and detail oriented.
+ Must have knowledge of a wide variety of research methodologies and techniques; statistical analysis; quantitative and qualitative methods; and analytical and critical thinking skills.
+ Preferred knowledge of Relational Databases and ability to interpret crime statistics.
+ Must have knowledge of standard reference/information sources, and electronic search logic skills; must be able to read, interpret and assess technical and trade documents, and journals, including peer reviewed articles, research reports and data reports.
+ Must be able to manage their time well, multi-task, and be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and fluid demands.
+ Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with internal and external customers.
+ Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
