Description of Job
This position is non-classified and seasonal. Do not use online application submission options to apply for this position. Legislative Council facilitates the posting of the position, but is not the employing department.
Overview
The session-only (Jan-May) policy analyst will provide detailed research and analysis of legislation for the Senate Minority caucus and staff. We are seeking a policy-oriented individual who works well under pressure and changing circumstances.
Responsibilities
+ Read all legislation that is introduced
+ Work collaboratively with the Senate Minority policy staff to conduct research and strategic analysis
+ Assist the policy staff in preparing memos and reports as needed
+ Preparation of legislative research for Senators during committee meetings
+ Meet with Senators regularly to discuss committee schedule
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Qualifications
+ Familiarity with the Coloradolegislative process (https://leg.colorado.gov/sites/default/files/bill\_becomes\_law\_chart.pdf) andrecent legislation (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills)
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
+ Strong reading comprehension and writing skills
+ Must be adaptable in a constantly changing environment and willing to work long hours
+ Must be able to work in an organized manner, with the ability to collaborate, problem solve, and work on a team while also taking individual responsibility to complete assignments
+ The individual in this position will maintain professionalism with every person they work with, including non-partisan staff, legislators and staff of the House and Senate Majority offices, constituents, and lobbyists
Compensation
+ $4,000-5,000/month commensurate with experience
