    Position Summary

    The Kentucky Museum Collections Assistant assists the Museum Collections Manager in caring for the Museum's collection of over 35,000 artifacts. This includes assisting in processing newly acquired artifacts, working through backlogs, routine exhibit cleaning, and daily checks of the Museum's main building and the Museum's offsite storage facility. This position also oversees personnel processes for part-time staff and student employees.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

     

    + Processing artifacts using museum practices for cataloging, physically numbering and storing.

    + Performing data entry related to collection artifacts using the Museum's PastPerfect Web Edition software.

    + Assist in monitoring physical and environmental conditions throughout the museum and its off-site storage location.

    + Assists with purchasing/ordering museum-quality acid-free materials used in housing the collection. Assist in artifact preparation for exhibition.

    + Assist with routine cleaning of exhibitions, including dusting artifacts on display.

    + Assist the Collections Manager in handling Collections access and reference requests.

    + Prepare collection objects for instructional use in close study classroom settings as well as presentations for WKU and non-WKU affiliated entities.

    + Oversight of part-time employee and student assistant time sheets.

    + Process work requests, evaluation, and termination paperwork for student employees.

    + Assist Collections Manager with picking up mail from mail room and packages from Shipping and Receiving and delivering deposits to WKU Foundation office.

    + Retrieve Voice mail and set up new messages as needed for lobby phone and monitor the Museums general email address.

    + Assists Museum Director with office duties including ordering supplies and reconciling Kentucky Museum credit card.

    + Completes the annual building inventory of computer equipment for the University Inventory Control Coordinator.

    + Participates, with the museum team, in Museum events, including our annual Celebration of the Arts event.

    Job Requirements:

    + Master's in Museum Studies, Folk Studies, Public History, or related field

    + One year of experience working in museums collections

    Additional Information:

    Hourly Range: $19.48 - $21.03
