    Who we’re looking for:

    The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a **Medical Laboratory Scientist 2** with the **Hematopathology Team** in South Lake Union.

     

    The Hematopathology group is a dynamic, high-impact laboratory team specializing in clinical flow cytometry and hematopathology diagnostics. Our work directly supports patient care by identifying complex hematologic malignancies and immune disorders with precision and speed. This MLS 2 role offers the excitement of working with cutting-edge technology and automation, close collaboration with world-renown pathologists and researchers across UW Medicine and Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, and the opportunity to contribute to continuous innovation that advances patient outcomes.     Work schedule:

    + 100% FTE

    + Monday – Friday with rotating weekends and holidays

    + Day shift

    What you’ll contribute:

    + Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.

    + Maintain proficiency in all laboratory procedures and direct others in their performance.

    + Provide routine analytical support for clinical assays.

    + Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.

    + Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results. Correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.

    + Adhere to CLIA/CAP systems and processes in the lab maintaining a high quality and accuracy of work.

    + Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.

    + Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.

    + Ensure instrument calibration and maintenance are performed, and all instrumentation is kept in working order.

    + Answer questions from customers or other lab personnel.

    + Ensure inventory of laboratory reagents and chemicals is maintained in a manner consistent with maintaining continuous operations.

    + Oversee purchasing of laboratory supplies and equipment, provide evaluation of the need for new equipment and cost analysis.

    + Develop and maintain new and existing procedures.

    + Exercise independent decision making with designated authority to provide direction and advice to MLS1s, MLS Trainees, and CLTs.

    + Assist the Lead Technologist in daily administrative operations of the Hematopathology Laboratory, with emphasis on instrument troubleshooting, QC, instrument maintenance documentation, inventory, and supply/reagent purchasing.

    + Oversee the training of new staff and documentation of competency.

    What you’ll need:

    + Accredited bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory OR equivalent education/experience

    AND

    + Current Medical Laboratory Scientist certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certifying organization; or certification with specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division

    AND

    + Two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 or equivalent experience.

     

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

    Desired qualifications:

    + Knowledge of flow cytometry principles

    + Knowledge of monoclonal antibodies

    + Knowledge of hematopoietic malignancies

    + Experience running flow cytometers

    + Computer skills
