Key job responsibilities
As a Sr. Applied Science Manager, you will:
* Lead a cross-functional team of Applied Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Software Development Engineers.
* Define and deliver the science and engineering roadmap for shopping session understanding, translating business goals into agentic strategies and driving integration of Session Agent capabilities into advertising applications.
* Hire and develop top talent, providing technical direction and career growth guidance to scientists and engineers within and across organizations.
* Stay current on research advances, industry trends, and system architectures relevant to agentic AI and session understanding for SPB’s advertising business.
About the team
The Ad Response Prediction (ARP) team within Sponsored Products and Brands (SPB) powers personalized shopping experiences for SPB ads across placements, pages, and devices worldwide. We build deep learning (DL) and generative AI (GenAI) solutions to predict shopper responses and derive session understanding, enabling optimization across every stage of the ad serving process—from sourcing and bidding to widget discovery and auctions.
We are seeking a Senior Applied Science Manager with a strong background in machine learning and advertising to advance shopping session understanding and integrate it into Amazon’s advertising systems. The ideal candidate has experience leading both scientists and engineers and is passionate about applying advanced GenAI technologies to transform the advertising experience.
Basic Qualifications
* M.S. in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline
* Experience in managing a team of both applied scientists and engineers as a tech lead or manager for at least 3 years
* Experience in building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale for at least 3 years
Preferred Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline
* Experience in building large-scale machine-learning models and infra for online recommendation, ads ranking, personalization, or search, etc.
* Experience developing and deploying Agentic AI or Generative AI (GenAI) solutions
* The ability to communicate complex technical concepts and solutions to all levels of the organization
* Experience in computational advertising

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $196,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
