In this role, you'll work directly with schools across the state to elevate teaching and learning in social studies and civics. You'll observe classrooms, guide curriculum development, and help educators implement evidence-based practices that engage students and prepare them for active citizenship.

The Role:
The Connecticut State Department of Education partners with schools, educators, and communities to ensure every student receives an excellent education that prepares them for college, career, and civic life.
As an Associate Education Consultant, you'll be the bridge between state-level standards and classroom implementation. Your work will directly support Connecticut educators in delivering meaningful social studies and humanities instruction.
The incumbent will visit school districts throughout the State of CT monthly to facilitate events and provide on-site support
Key Responsibilities:
+ Curriculum & Instruction
+ Design high-quality instructional resources aligned to state standards and publish in GoOpenCT, Connecticut’s Digital Library for open education resources
+ Update curricular guidance for social studies and humanities programs
+ Create tools, guides, and publications for statewide distribution
+ Program Management & Support
+ Oversee Connecticut's Red, White and Blue program and United States Senate Youth Program
+ Monitor state and national student competitions
+ Support emerging humanities programs and educational technologies with connections to student pathways including work-based learning and dual concurrent enrollment
+ Professional Development & Collaboration
+ Deliver professional learning for educators at secondary and postsecondary levels
+ Partner with other state agencies and CSDE offices to advance educational initiatives
+ Collaborate with stakeholders across Connecticut's education community

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Departments of Aging and Disability Services, Education, and the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System assists in planning and executing programs of extensive difficulty and scope for the improvement of education in the state.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
+ Assists a Bureau Chief or Education Consultant in supervising various educational programs and services offered by the state;
+ Assists in the development and administration of certain programs of major importance or may develop and administer other programs within the framework of bureau policy;
+ Provides professional leadership and guidance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals;
+ May assist in directing the routine functioning of the bureau;
+ Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
+ Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned;
+ Teaching skill;
+ Ability to
+ prepare reports;
+ deal effectively with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
An earned advanced degree and five (5) years of professional experience OR in lieu thereof an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the appropriate Board and/or appointing authority.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience working within CT school systems
+ Experience with Connecticut State Community College programs and offerings
+ Experience with state and federal legislation and initiatives related to social studies, civics and humanities topics.
+ Experience with digital and media literacy, inquiry-based learning in social studies and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)
+ Experience coordinating and managing tasks and timelines with internal and external stakeholders
+ Experience in reading and interpreting written materials, laws and regulations
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class in certain positions may be required to possess an appropriate certificate issued by State Board of Education.
