As part of our California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP), you’ll work with families to help children from birth to 21 years of age who have medically eligible conditions, maximize independence and thrive in their daily lives.

     

    Under the close and/or general supervision or direction and guidance of the supervising therapist, the Occupational Rehabilitation Therapist plans, organizes, and implements rehabilitation programs in both clinical and/or community settings. You’ll have the opportunity to travel throughout Ventura County, to provide occupational therapy tailored to the child’s specific needs, making a lasting difference.

    WHAT WE OFFER: An employee within this position may also be eligible for the following:

    + Retirement Plan: Per diem pool employees scheduled to work 64 hours or more per pay period will be in the County system, but will not receive a retirement pickup. Once per diem pool employees are in the County system, they will not be able to leave it even if their work schedules are officially reduced

    + Holiday: Per Diem pool employees will be paid at the overtime rate of 1.5 for hours worked on two major holidays per year. Major holidays are defined as Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

    PAYROLL TITLE: Rehabilitation Therapist – PDP IV

     

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Occupational Rehabilitation Therapists - Per Diem Pool (PDP) are limited benefited employees who provide occupational therapy services. Per Diem Pool classifications are distinguished from Regular classifications in that additional compensation is provided in lieu of full County benefits. Per Diem Pool assignments are scheduled flexibly or on an as-needed basis; therefore, incumbents are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period and may be called off if there is insufficient work to be performed during any assigned shift.

     

    AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency- Public Health and will require travel throughout Ventura County

     

    Rehabilitation Therapist PDP-IV is represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

     

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem Pool vacancies for this position only. There is currently one (1) Per Diem Pool vacancy.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties performed are in accordance with the California licensure or certification standards and may include but are not limited to the following:

    + Provides occupational therapy services in accordance with the California Business and Professions Code, Occupational Therapy Practice Act, and consistent with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy;

    + Performs evaluation and ongoing assessment of patients to determine functional status and deficits;

    + Plans, develops, and utilizes occupational therapy procedures to meet the physical and functional needs of patients;

    + Confers with the physician, patient, and family and sets functional goals for appropriate therapy;

    + Performs tests and measures within the scope of hired profession;

    + Applies, modifies, and fabricates, as needed, specific static and dynamic splints and adaptive equipment to improve functional outcomes;

    + Participates in the maintenance of equipment and ordering of adaptive equipment/supplies;

    + Initiates and maintains records of patients' status and progress;

    + Provides patient and family education to assist in achievement of functional goals, including the development and implementation of home exercise and activity programs;

    + Utilizes therapeutic techniques in working toward these goals with groups or individuals;

    + Coordinates occupational therapy programs with patients, families, caregivers, and other team members/agencies involved in the care;

    + California Children's Services - Medical Therapy Program (CCS-MTP) therapists participate in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process and represent the Medical Therapy Program;

    + May provide clinical supervision to staff therapists, therapy assistants and/or students; and

    + Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

    A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy or proof of equivalency, plus two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist.

    OR

    Successful completion of an internship program with the hiring department or an equivalent training program, and one (1) year of experience as an occupational therapist.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Possession of a current valid California Occupational Therapist License.

    + Possession of a valid California driver license and proof of auto insurance may be required by date of hire and maintained thereafter.

    + Must have and maintain a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross by the time of hire.

    + Live scan fingerprinting may be required for some positions.

    + Must possess the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

    + Must be willing to work with children aged birth to 21 years of age who have chronic, long-term physically disabling conditions.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

    Basic knowledge of:

    + Individualized education plans (CCS applicants).

    Thorough knowledge of:

    + The AOTA Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy;

    + Normal human development;

    + Human occupation and physical requirements necessary for functional activities;

    + Activity of Daily Living (ADL) skills and therapeutic treatments;

    + Evidence based, occupational therapy evaluations, procedures and treatment programs for clients living with complex medical and physically disabling conditions;

    + Splinting and adaptive equipment;

    + Positioning for optimal function;

    + Activity of Daily Living skills and therapeutic interventions to maximize independence;

    + The use and maintenance of adaptive and durable medical equipment, especially as it is related to participation in Activities of Daily Living; and

    + Departmental processes and procedures

    Ability to:

    + Assess and develop treatment plans appropriate to clients’ cognitive abilities, comprehension, and individual rehabilitative needs/goals;

    + Establish effective relationships and communication with patients, physicians, and other staff;

    + Communicate orally and in writing;

    + Make appropriate referrals;

    + Fabricate/recommend upper extremity orthotics;

    + Position patients for optimal functioning;

    + Plan and clinically supervise the work of others;

    + Teach other basic activity skills; prepare reports and keep records to be included in the medical record; analyze situations accurately and take an effective course of action; and

    + Work cooperatively with a multi-disciplinary team.
