Job Summary
This position is a qualified, experienced health physics technician who complies what the plant’s Technical Specifications staff manning requirements. The incumbent may work independently and performs radiological surveys to assess hazards, routine surveillances and inspections in accordance with procedures. This position may maintain radiation exposure records and various types of radiation monitoring equipment. Results of surveys and data are analyzed to determine the extent of radiological hazards to personnel and appropriate protective measures are prescribed. The incumbent has authorization to stop work when unsafe radiological or safety conditions arise. Other duties related to the department’s assigned responsibilities may be required to be performed as assigned by supervisor. Supervisor provides general guidance and makes work assignments.
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
Knowledge of TVA Radiation Safety Program procedures used in radiation safety monitoring.
Basic computer skills are required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
ANSI 18.1 qualifications - shall have a minimum of two years of working experience in their specialty. Should have a minimum of one year of related technical training in addition to their experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume “on-call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability. Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by NPG procedures during peak periods. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location. The position requires use of protective clothing and work in areas with elevated temperatures, high noise backgrounds, asbestos, radiation, and other industrial hazards.
