Introduction

IBM Research is seeking a distinguished Visiting Scientist for a 3-month collaborative research engagement. This unique position offers the opportunity to work alongside our world-class researchers on cutting-edge problems in artificial intelligence.

The visiting scientist will collaborate with our team on foundational research at the intersection of machine learning, reasoning, and natural language understanding. A key focus of this collaboration will be to explore and advance the positive social and civilizational impacts of increasingly powerful AI systems.

This role is designed to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas, providing our lab with invaluable expertise and mentorship while advancing a shared research agenda.

Your role and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct foundational research in machine learning, reasoning, and natural language processing (NLP).

* Collaborate directly with IBM researchers to define and pursue a joint research project.

* Provide mentorship and share expert knowledge with team members.

* Contribute to research vision that emphasizes the ethical and beneficial application of AI.

Required technical and professional expertise

* A proven track record of research excellence in computer science or a related field.

* Deep expertise and a research focus at the intersection of:

* Machine Learning

* Knowledge Representation and Reasoning

* Natural Language Understanding

* A strong commitment to the ethical development of AI and its positive impact on society.

* Outstanding communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred technical and professional experience

* PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.

* Significant experience in both academic and industrial research settings.

* A distinguished publication record in top-tier AI/ML/NLP conferences and journals.

* Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor research initiatives.
