Assists Misdemeanor Probation Officers with case management, preparing, and maintaining probation case files and related documentation. Reads and interprets documents to ensure a complete and accurate record is maintained while performing a variety of other administrative duties. Provides a positive customer service experience by greeting the public and relaying information in a professional manner.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Performs varied moderately complex work under general supervision according to pre-defined guidelines.
New Misdemeanor Probation Technicians will start out at a Level I pay rate of $19.00/hr. As they acquire the required skills, they have the opportunity to promote to a Level II pay of $21.00/hr. and then to a Level III pay of $23.00/hr.

Essential Functions
+ Completes and distributes probation referrals;
+ Communicates with court and other county and city agencies regarding client progress;
+ Posts and documents court related outcomes in statewide information system;
+ Completes data entry tasks;
+ Distributes offender record information to appropriate staff members;
+ Performs simple bookkeeping duties related to collecting offender Cost of Supervision (COS) fees;
+ Responds to questions and requests and provides information relative to Misdemeanor Probation operations, services, programs, and procedures;
+ Helps the public with inquiries by identifying and resolving problems and/or referring to appropriate staff for resolution;
+ Performs simple and routine clerical tasks including file maintenance, covering the front desk, composing letters, and answering phones;
+ Creates, updates, and maintains electronic and paper files;
+ Performs records searches in various specialized computer databases;
+ Receives and distributes mail.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
+ May attend court hearings as required;
+ Performs related functions as required.
Job Requirements
+ Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
+ Knowledge of legal terminology and forms preferred;
+ Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling;
+ Knowledge of modern office equipment, practice and procedures;
+ Knowledge of computer systems, file structure, and thorough knowledge of MS Office Suite;
+ Skill in performing customer service;
+ Skill in organizing and accurately accomplishing work within limited timeframes;
+ Skill in communicating with culturally diverse populations;
+ Ability to maintain a large amount of data with a high degree of accuracy;
+ Ability to research, investigate and correct clerical data;
+ Ability to type at least 40 wpm;
+ Ability to maintain integrity and confidentially of records and processes;
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; and
+ Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
+ Must be able to work flexible shifts, which may include evenings;
+ An employee in this class must be deputized in order to make work actions effective;
+ Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire;
+ This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
+ Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
+ Much of the work is performed around offenders and involves an element of personal danger;
+ Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
