POSITION SUMMARY

The Instructor of Criminal Justice serves as a faculty member, responsible for instructing students in SUSLA’s Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and the Associate of Arts Louisiana Transfer Criminal Justice, online and on-campus programs. The instructor will develop and design curriculum plans which foster student learning and provide academic counseling to students.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

+ Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a Master’s degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in Criminal Justice.

+ Two to three years of successful teaching and instructional design experience

+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment

+ Computer skills are necessary

+ Strong attention to detail is essential

Faculty are required to work as needed, which includes teaching on and off-campus sites for both day and evening classes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Online teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting

+ Two to three years of experience working in the Criminal Justice field

Job Duties and Other Information

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES:

+ Teach courses in the Criminal Justice programs.

+ Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.

+ Assist the department chair in scheduling classes for the programs.

+ Serve as a student advisor.

+ Coordinate with other appropriate faculty to develop the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of institutional effectiveness and prepare reports.

+ Coordinate course textbook orders and course materials.

+ Maintain communication and work cooperatively with instructors of off-campus instructional sites, including Dual Enrollment.

+ Assist with the coordination of Dual Credit and Distance Education classes.

+ Serve on institutional committees

+ Perform other duties as assigned.
