What We Do:
The Financial Services work unit exists to maintain a controlled environment to properly record financial information for the more than $23 billion of taxes and fees collected annually by the DOR. The unit also provides accounting services, information and reporting of expenditures and payments to other governmental agencies. Fiscal year end activities include computing material adjustments to the State's accounting records to allow the State Controller to produce a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) that complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The unit functions as a statewide entity, operating in 60+ CORE funds and directly posting to the accounts of 20+ state agencies, as well as being primary custodian over 20+ CORE funds. This unit has oversight responsibility for the design and maintenance of several systems and subsystems, payroll for 1,800 employees, information and budget support, expenditure document, and controls, Federal Grants, and Capital Construction.
The typical day as a DMV Accountant III:
As a DMV Accountant III, you will:
+ Analyze, assemble, and interpret specific financial information for departmental management, other agencies, other states, State Controller, Legislature, State Treasurer, County Clerks, and others based on DRIVES reporting and analysis.
+ Review accounting reports, and other information sources, in order to detect problems concerning accounting controls.
+ Assist with assembling data for annual FHWA reporting.
+ Review legislation related to the DMV and formulates and tests DRIVES system SQRs to ensure that revenue is collected & distributed properly.
+ Resolve any issues in a timely manner.
+ Has decision making authority in resolving and analyzing problems in terms of DRIVES State Financial reports configuration
+ Review and approve CORE documents to accomplish DOR interface activities
This position is currently tasked with performing work duties via flex-place (aka telework, work-from home arrangements) with on-site visits periodically (generally, once a quarter) for meetings and/or training at 2829 W. Howard Place, Denver, CO. 80204. This position is generally not allowed to take personal leave from approximately July to August every year due to the fiscal year requirements of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience:
Experience Only:
Eight (8) years of professional accounting experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
+ A combination of related education (coursework requires 27 semester hours completed in accounting or auditing) and/or relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to eight (8) years
+ Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will count for six (6) years of the requirement
Preferred Qualifications:

+ Knowledge and understanding of State Fiscal Rules, legislation, and Statutes
+ Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) and their application
+ Experience working with CORE

+ Demonstrated verbal and written communication and analytical skills
+ Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills
+ Experience communicating financial information to various stakeholders
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
+ Experience working in a State Government accounting role
Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:
Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
