We are currently looking for an Engineering Lead for a 100% remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for a cross-functional development and DevOps team. The selected candidate will oversee API design, establish engineering best practices, and ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing technical solutions.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide architectural oversight and guide the design of APIs to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability.
+ Establish and enforce coding standards, API design principles, and DevOps best practices across the team.
+ Make informed technical decisions on tools, frameworks, and technologies for both development and operations.
+ Mentor and coach developers and DevOps engineers to support professional growth and technical excellence.
+ Coordinate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, serving as the primary liaison for API and DevOps initiatives.
+ Oversee sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives to drive effective agile delivery.
+ Ensure high-quality deliverables through code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline management.
+ Lead troubleshooting and incident management efforts to resolve production issues efficiently.
+ Champion Infrastructure-as-Code practices and ensure secure, automated deployments.
+ Promote continuous improvement through process optimization, performance metrics, and technology evaluation.
+ Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
+ 5+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, technical leadership, or DevOps environments.
+ Strong understanding of API architecture, cloud environments, and CI/CD principles.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients and leadership.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
+ Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
+ U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Additional Qualifications:
+ Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
+ Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and reliability engineering practices.
+ Experience promoting secure DevOps practices including secrets management and vulnerability scanning.
+ Proven success implementing process optimization and automation in large-scale environments.
