    Position: Library Teaching Assistant (Posting Number 2526-3553)

     

    Start Date: November 24, 2025

     

    Requirements: Must have NYS Certification as a Teaching Assistant - Level I, Level II or Level III or have NYS certification as a teacher

    + Library experience preferred

    + Physical stamina to lift and bend

    + Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System

    + A love of reading and commitment to information literacy

    + Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

    + Facility with computers; proficiency with Google Workspace for Education preferred

    + A friendly, flexible disposition and desire to create a safe, welcoming environment for all students

    + Adherence to the American Library Association ethical standards around intellectual freedom and confidentiality

    Responsibilities:

    + Check books in and out

    + Help students locate library materials

    + Maintain accurate attendance records

    + Fill and generate interlibrary loan requests

    + Collect and report data on resource use

    + Generate, deliver, and follow up on overdue notices

    + Shelve books using Dewey Decimal classification

    + Answer the phone and direct library inquiries

    + Process new books and repair damaged books

    + Move around the library to actively supervise students.

    + Check in book and supply orders and assist in generating new orders

    + Assist in the design and execution of physical and digital library displays and promotions

    + Assist students in navigating the library catalog, databases, Ebook collection, and multimedia collection

     

    Salary: As per current Educational Support Association Agreement (ESA) as well as education and experience
