    The Texas A&M University School of Law is seeking a Legal Assistant II who is proficient in supporting attorneys through research, spreadsheets, AI tools, and law practice management software like CLIO. You’ll be navigating the Texas E-filing system and conducting top-tier legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, TxDocs, Public Data, and more.     What You Need to Know

     

    Salary: $25.00/hourly

    Other Requirements and Factors:

    + This position is grant funded, currently for two years; continued employment is contingent upon availability grant funding.

    + This position is part-time.

    + This position will work with the LSV Attorney and clients at homeless shelters, the Fort Worth Veterans Administration Medical Center, Healthcare for Homeless Veterans in Fort Worth, and the Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center.

    + Must be able to pass VA security clearance to obtain access to VBMS access and access to other VA related sites to assist veterans.

    Essential Duties/Tasks

    Paralegal Services:

    + Prioritizes attorney workloads, including attending initial interviews and depositions, conducting background research, and preparing chronologies, fact summaries and witness files.

    + Researches and analyzes legal sources, including statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, articles, and various rules and regulations.

    + Drafts and prepares initial responses to correspondence, memoranda, and opinion requests involving client advice letters, demand letters and other as needed for review by attorneys.

    + Coordinates the scheduling and drafting of client responses to interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions, requests for information, and other forms of discovery and e-discovery.

    + Provides consistent, high quality, legal services to clients related to more narrowly focused and in-depth practice area assignments, responsibilities, and special initiatives.

    + Reviews and edits legal documents for citation, accuracy, quotations, footnotes, and compliance with System policies, regulations, and rules.

    + Coordinates, assembles, and prepares evidence, exhibits, affidavits, trial and hearing notebooks, e-courtroom materials, briefs, and other documents for use in legal proceedings.

    + Conducts conflict checks and background research on client and opposing parties.

    + Sets up case files – physical and electronic

    + Maintains client workbook including keeping status updated on cases

    Administrative:

    + Maintains detailed database files on all matters in the respective practice area assignment.

    + Assist in compiling data for grant reporting and assures compliance with grant terms and conditions for attorneys.

    + Receives incoming requests and matters and assists in assigning requests and matters to the appropriate attorney for review.

    + Maintains attorney calendars, schedules appointments, and coordinates meetings.

    Coordination and Compliance Services:

    + Coordinates with Director and research personnel at Texas A & M Institute for Healthcare Access to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and reporting requirements.

    + Coordinates travel arrangements and prepares and submits travel reimbursements.

    + Coordinates outreach events and intake schedules.

    + Contacts partner agencies to ensure space is available on the date of outreach or intake.

    + Maintains grant workbook and enters data from closing memos after review of Director

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience:

    + High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Eight years of related law office experience or four years of related law office experience with legal certification through an Associate Degree or Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of word processing, AI, spreadsheet, law practice management software such as CLIO and other database applications.

    + Ability to use Texas E-filing system, Westlaw, Lexis, TxDocs, Public Data and other research and drafting software.

    + Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    + Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
