    A well-established organization in Hartford is seeking a strategic and hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee its core financial operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you’ll lead a team of five and play a key role in driving accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all accounting functions. This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across departments and direct influence on organizational success.

    • What You’ll Do

    + Manage daily accounting operations including payroll, AP/AR, general ledger, and financial close cycles

    + Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

    + Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems, ensuring full compliance with regulations

    + Serve as the primary liaison with payroll vendors, including wage garnishment coordination

    + Review and approve cost allocations, depreciation schedules, and accrual entries

    + Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries using third-party provider data

    + Stay current on payroll laws and ensure timely updates to practices and systems

    + Deliver financial insights and reporting to senior leadership to support strategic decisions

    + Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team

    + Continuously evaluate and improve accounting systems and workflows for efficiency and accuracy

    • What You Bring

    + Strong command of GAAP and core accounting principles

    + Proven experience managing accounting teams in dynamic environments

    + Hands-on expertise in payroll processing and compliance

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field

    + Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial software platforms

    + Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills

    • Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with budgeting, auditing, and cost allocation

    + Familiarity with accounting software platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage)

    + Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations

    + Experience leading payroll system transitions

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $29.67 - $35.16/hr.

     

    Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
