Description of Work Unit

Optometry Clinic

The Optometry clinic at the CSU Health Network provides acute and routine care to CSU students by appointments and on a walk-in basis for urgent concerns. The Optometry clinic is part of the medical clinic composed of primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who care for students, with emphasis on preventive care, education, and continuity. The medical clinic is supported by a full range of laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychiatry, optometry, and nutrition services on site, and integrated care with counseling staff enhances the treatment of students with behavioral health concerns. Diagnostic and minor procedures are performed in the optometry clinic. This Optometry clinic is the only one in Colorado and one of a very few present in student health clinics nationwide. The Optometry Clinic provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff.

The CSU Health Network ( CSUHN ) at Colorado State University provides a full range of cost-effective mental health and primary care medical services on campus, referral for community specialty care, and comprehensive health education and prevention services programming. Position Summary

The Optometrist examines, diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the vision system, the eye and associated structures, as well as diagnose related systemic conditions. The position serves students directly by appointment and also sees referral appointments on an immediate basis at the request of the in-house medical staff.

The Optometrist is PRN , working a minimum of eight hours and a maximum of 19 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 12 months per year. The full-time annualized salary is $120,000 – $128,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This full-time annualized salary will be pro-rated based upon working 8–19 hours/ per week.

The Optometrist reports directly to the Optometrist – Manager of Optometry Services.

Required Job Qualifications

Education

+ Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school of Optometry

Licensure/ Certifications

+ Current Colorado Optometrist license, or ability to obtain by the start date

+ Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents ( TPA ) Certification

+ Current certification in Basic Life support ( BLS ) or ability to obtain by the start date

Experience

+ One year of full-time experience providing services as an Optometrist

+ Experience fitting wide variety of contact lenses

+ Experience with diagnosis, treatment and management of medical eye conditions

Preferred Job Qualifications

Experience

+ Four years of experience as an Optometrist in a clinical setting

+ Experience working in a college health setting and/or experience working with a young adult / college age population

+ Experience collaborating with Optometry staff

+ Experience collaborating with other medical specialties in an integrated clinic setting

Licensure/Certification

+ Board Certification in Optometry is optional

+ The Optometry Clinic serves students directly by appointment for routine and acute care of eye/vision needs. This includes routine refraction for assessment of vision and need for corrective lenses or contact lens.

+ Conducting comprehensive eye exams with thorough and accurate documentation.

+ Diagnosing and managing ocular conditions using best practices, diagnostic techniques, and treatment protocols.

+ Prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses and follow up to ensure proper vision correction.

+ Prescribing of appropriate medications when indicated.

+ Educate patients on eye health, visual hygiene, and preventive care.

+ Available for consultation by the medical providers as needed.

+ Be available to provide coverage during staff vacations, medical leave, or periods of increased patient volume.

+ Complying with regulatory and university policies and guidelines as well as HIPAA standards.

+ Appropriate referral to outside specialists.
